Powerday is a London based recycling and waste management firm. [1] Mick Crossan owns 85% of the company. [2] They are the current sponsors of the London Irish rugby club. [3] Crossan is also the majority shareholder and club president of the rugby club. [4] They are also the current sponsors of Enfield Town FC. [5]

In 2010, Powerday were awarded the waste contract for Heathrow Airport. [6] They have handled 87,000 tonnes of waste from the site and in 2015, the contract was renewed. [7]

In 2015, they invested £10 million into a new material recovery facility (MRF) in Enfield, London. [8] In 2017, they exported 170,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to energy company, Geminor in Sweden. [9] The unusable plastic waste goes to valuable fuel to power Stockholm. [10]

Powerday and I-recycle provide a commercial waste service by water transportation. [11]

Foundation

Powerday support local communities through the Powerday Foundation. [12] They support local communities including youth boxing. [13] Mick Crossan is the Dale Youth boxing club president, he funded and organised the rebuild of the boxing club which was destroyed in the Grenfell Tower fire. The club is now located on Ladbroke Grove. [14] The rebuild was featured on the BBC Television programme DIY SOS . [15]

Powerday have also helped ex-offenders into employment. [16] As of 2019, it sponsored London Irish rugby club. [17]

London Irish

London Irish RFC is a professional English rugby union club, with an Irish Identity. It was originally based in Sunbury, Surrey, where the senior squad train, youth teams and senior academy play home games, and the club maintain their administrative offices, at Hazelwood Drive. It has competed in the Premiership, the top division of English rugby union, every season since its inception in 1996–97, apart from the 2016–17 and 2018–19 seasons, in which the club competed in the RFU Championship, winning the league both times. The Anglo-Welsh Cup, was a cross-border rugby union knock-out cup competition that featured the 12 Premiership Rugby clubs and the four Welsh regions. The competition was seen by most clubs as a tournament to experiment with younger and upcoming players, with many regular team starters rested from the match day squad. Prior to 2005 the cup was an all-English competition, and before the establishment of the English league structure in 1987 represented the premier competition in English club rugby.

Recycling in the United Kingdom

In 2015, 43.5% of the United Kingdom's municipal waste was recycled, composted or broken down by anaerobic digestion. The majority of recycling undertaken in the United Kingdom is done by statutory authorities, although commercial and industrial waste is chiefly processed by private companies. Local Authorities are responsible for the collection of municipal waste and operate contracts which are usually kerbside collection schemes. The Household Waste Recycling Act 2003 required local authorities in England to provide every household with a separate collection of at least two types of recyclable materials by 2010. Recycling policy is devolved to the administrations of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales who set their own targets, but all statistics are reported to Eurostat.

Paul Burnell is a former Scotland international rugby union player. He was also a member of the 1990 Grand Slam Scotland team. He toured New Zealand in 1993 with the British and Irish Lions and at the time played club rugby for London Scottish.

Teesside EfW

Teesside Energy from Waste plant is a municipal waste incinerator and waste-to-energy power station, which provides 29.2 megawatts (MW) of electricity for the National Grid by burning 390,000 tonnes of household and commercial waste a year. It is located on the River Tees at Haverton Hill, east of Billingham in North East England. Operated by SITA UK since its conception, the plant replaced the Portrack Incinerator and opened in 1998.

Recology

Recology is an integrated resource recovery company headquartered in San Francisco, California. The company collects and processes municipal solid waste, reclaiming useful materials that would have otherwise been buried in a landfill. The company also operates transfer stations, materials recovery facilities (MRFs), a number of landfills, and continues to spearhead renewable energy projects. Recology is the largest organics compost facility operator by volume in the United States.

Products made from a variety of materials can be recycled using a number of processes.

David Patrick Lindsay James "Paddy" Jackson is a professional rugby union player from Northern Ireland. He primarily played at fly-half for Irish provincial side Ulster in the Pro12 and also played in France for Perpignan. He signed with London Irish for the 2019–20 Premiership Rugby season.

The Dale Youth boxing club is an amateur boxing club in London that operated from a gym in Grenfell Tower on the Lancaster West Estate. It has produced many champions, but lost its premises in the 2017 fire that destroyed the tower.

Felix Project is a United Kingdom charitable organization that saves surplus food from suppliers and redistributes it to charities. It has the dual aim to help reduce food surplus. The Waste & Resources Action Programme estimate that 10 million tonnes of food was thrown away in the UK in 2016 and help relieve food poverty (Sustain estimate 18% or one in five London pupils are at risk of hunger every day.

Healthcare Environment Services (HES) Limited was a company based in Shotts. It claimed to be the largest independent medical waste management solutions company in the UK. On the 30th of April, HES was placed into liquidation
