Pozuzo District is one of eight districts of the Oxapampa Province in the Pasco Department of Peru. [1] The two towns in the district are the capital, Pozuzo, population 1,366 in 2017, and Prusia, which is smaller.

Pozuzo District is best known for the colonists from Austria and Germany who established one of the first European settlements (in Peru) east of the Andes in remote Pozuzo District in 1859. Traces of German culture remain in the architecture and culture of the district. [2]

Huacachina Village

Huacachina is a village built around a small oasis and surrounded by sand dunes in southwestern Peru. It is about five kilometers from the city of Ica in the Ica District of Ica Province. The oasis was introduced as a feature on the back of the 50 nuevo sol note in 1991. Huacachina has a permanent population of around 100 people, although it hosts many tens of thousands of tourists each year.

The province is located on the eastern slopes of the Andes reaching down to the lowlands of the Amazon Basin. The high point of the province is approximately 5,300 metres (17,400 ft) in elevation near the summit of Huaguruncho mountain in the Huancabamba District and the low point is approximately 200 metres (660 ft) on the Pachitea River in the Constitución District.

Villa Rica District District in Pasco, Peru

Villa Rica District is one of eight districts of Oxapampa Province in Pasco Department, Peru. The district has an area of 896 square kilometres (346 sq mi) and a population of 18,673 in 2017. The capital of the district is the town of Villa Rica which had a population of 11,900 in 2017. The district is the location of the Cerro de la Sal or Salt Mountain, an important gathering place for indigenous people of the region and a center of Franciscan missionary activity in the 17th and 18th centuries. The town was founded in 1928 by settlers of German and Austrian origin from the town of Pozuzo.

Pozuzo Place in Pasco, Peru

Pozuzo is a village and district in the Oxapampa Province and Pasco Region of Peru. The village, at an elevation of 739 metres (2,425 ft), is situated near the left bank of the Huancabamba River which is renamed the Pozuzo River after it passes by the village. The population of the village in 2017 was 1,366. Pozuzo was established in 1859 by Austrian and German immigrants to Peru and traces of German culture and architecture survived into the 21st century. Pozuzo was isolated and difficult to access until 1976 when a vehicle road was completed linking the village with the town of Oxapampa, 80 kilometres (50 mi) north.

Purunllacta or Purum Llacta (Quechua purum, purun savage, wild / wasteland, llaqta place is an archaeological site of the Chachapoya culture in Peru. It is situated in the Amazonas Region, Chachapoyas Province, Cheto District, on the mountain of the same name. It lies northeast and near the archaeological site of Purunllacta of the Soloco District.

Ñausacocha is a 5,152-metre-high (16,903 ft) mountain and a nearby lake of the same name in the Huaguruncho mountain range in the Andes of Peru. The mountain and the lake are located in the Pasco Region, Pasco Province, Ticlacayán District, north of Huaguruncho.

Huaguruncho mountain range

The Huaguruncho mountain range is situated in the Andes of Peru. It extends in an easterly direction between 10°29' and 10°34'S and 75°50'W and 76°01'W for about 27 km. The range is located in the Huánuco Region, in the provinces of Ambo and Pachitea, and in the Pasco Region, in the provinces of Pasco and Oxapampa.
