Prajapati was a Bengali social drama film directed by Biplab Chatterjee and produced by Rajesh Kumar based on the novel of Samaresh Basu by the same name. [1] The film was released in 1993. [2] A criminal case for obscenity was filed against the author Samaresh Basu and the publisher in 1968 for the original novel. [3] [4]

Plot

Sukhen, a young man lives a casual life. He is innocent but neglected by his family. Sukhen loves Shikha and wants to live a normal and healthy life but his brothers are corrupt as well as politically powerful, and they try to use unemployed Sukhen for their political mileage.

Samaresh Basu was an Indian writer in modern Bengali literature, known for his versatility and vast range of themes. He wrote under the pen name Kalkut. Basu was awarded the 1980 Sahitya Akademi Award in Bengali, by Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, for his novel, Shamba. He won the 1983 Filmfare Awards for Best Story for Namkeen.

Prajapati is a Bengali-language novel that was written by Samaresh Basu. It was first published in 1967 in Bengali monthly magazine Sharadiya Desh, which was published by Ananda Publishers. The novel is about a young boy who is used as the premises to understand his background and the society in which he lives.

Jibon Niye Khela(English: Playing with life) is a 1999 Indian Bengali language political action film directed by Anjan Choudhury. The film attained mass attention as it deals with the corruption in Healthcare sector of West Bengal. The film features Ranjit Mallick, Biplab Chatterjee, Manoj Mitra, Debashree Roy, Subhendu Chatterjee, Chumki Choudhury, Haradhan Bandopadhyay, Arjun Chakraborty, Lokesh Ghosh and Rina Choudhury in lead roles, while Supriya Devi did a guest appearance. Teen Bhubaner Paare is a Bengali movie, inspired by Samaresh Basu's novel, released in 1969. The songs "Hoyto Tomari Jonno"(হয়তো তোমারই জন্য) & "Jibone Ki Pabo Na"(জীবনে কি পাবো না) sung by Manna Dey are still very famous among Bengali youth. The film was a big hit of the Bengali Cinema.

Ashlilatar Daye is a Bengali drama film released in 1983. The film is based on a thriller cum courtroom drama novel by the Narayan Sanyal with the same title, which was published in 1975. Sanyal took this novel theme from Seven Minutes by Irving Wallace. This film was directed by Uma Nath Bhattacharya. Arundhati Holme Chowdhury and Haimanti Sukla sang in this film.

Hemlock Society is an Indian Bengali romantic dark comedy released on 22 June 2012, directed by Srijit Mukherji, who is also the director of Autograph and Baishe Srabon. The film's cast consists of Parambrata Chatterjee, Koel Mallick, and Soumitra Chatterjee. The name is inspired by the erstwhile Hemlock Society, a society which was based in Santa Monica, US. The primary missions of this society included providing information to dying persons and supporting legislation permitting physician-assisted suicide. The movie was remade in Marathi in 2015 as Welcome Zindagi. A box-office success.

Gogoler Kirti is a 2014 Indian Bengali film, directed by Pompy Ghosh Mukherjee and produced by Supratik Ghosh under the banner of Ishani Films. Based on the story Royraja Uddhar and Mahishmardini Uddhar by Samaresh Basu, the film features child actor Ahijit Ghosh, Vikram Chatterjee and Indraneil Sengupta in the lead roles. It is the sequel of 2013 film Goyenda Gogol. The film was released on 12 September 2014.

Baghini is a 1968 Bengali drama film directed by Bijay Bose and produced by Girindra Singha. The movie is based on a same name novel of Samaresh Basu. Soumitra Chatterjee stars as the main hero, Chiranjib, and Sandhya Roy plays the film's heroine, Dugga. Jahar Roy plays Dugga's father, a liquor merchant; Rabi Ghosh plays Bhola, the villain. In the end, Bhola is killed by Dugga. She marries Chiranjib before going to jail.

Dhanyee Meye is a 1971 Bengali romantic comedy film directed by Arabinda Mukhopadhyay. The film was released on 11 April 1952. It was the debut film of legendary Bengali actress Supriya Devi. It was the first successful film starring Uttam Kumar and it became a superhit at the box office. After seven back to back flop films he was called 'flop master general', and he considered to leave the film industry. The success of this film saved his career. The film was remade in Hindi as Hum Hindustani in 1960.

Ekhane Akash Neel is a Bengali romantic medical drama series that aired on Star Jalsha and streamed on the digital platform Hotstar from 23 September 2019. It was a reboot of the popular show Ekhane Aakash Neel. It was also the remake of the StarPlus show Sanjivani. Produced by Surinder Films, it starred Anamika Chakraborty as Dr. Hiya Mitra and Sean Banarjee as Dr.Ujaan Chatterjee. It ended on 3 October 2020 and was replaced by Ogo Nirupoma.

Pratikaar is a 1987 Indian Bengali-language vigilante action film written and directed by Prabhat Roy. Produced by Pranab Basu under the banner of Chandima Films, the film stars Victor Banerjee, Chiranjeet Chakraborty and Debashree Roy in lead roles, while Utpal Dutta, Madhabi Mukherjee, Satabdi Roy, Shakuntala Barua, Sukhen Das, Biplab Chatterjee, Chhaya Devi and Nimu Bhowmik play supporting roles. The screenplay and dialogues were also written by Prabhat Roy. The soundtrack album and background score was composed by Bappi Lahiri, with the lyrics penned by Gauriprasanna Mazumder. It plots the story of an intelligent student Shankar, who becomes a vigilante after the violent murder of his mother and brutal rape of his sister, by the local goons who kidnaps women and sell them outsides. When he starts avenging, DSP Rajib Chowdhury who is childhood friend of Shankar, comes on the board to investigate the murder mysteries done by Shankar.
