Prayag Dutta Joshi was an Indian writer and Sambalpuri language (allegedly also known as Kosli) activist. He was born on 25 February 1913 to Shri Chandrasekhar Patjoshi and Smt. Brundabati Devi in Khariar, Nuapada. He spent his time in Kosal bharti kuria of Khariar. [1]
He studied up to class 8th at Raj Khariar and then went to Raipur for higher studies and completed his matriculation in 1932. He privately studied Ayurveda from 1934 to 1938 in Kashi at Kabiraj Dharamdas Chaukacharya. He was awarded with gold medal for securing the first position in All India level Ayurveda examination held in 1938. During his Kashi days he had authored four volumes of books on Ayurveda in Sanskrit.
Prayag Dutta Joshi was the first person to declare the language of western Orissa as an independent language and named it as "Kosli", and declared that:
"ପୁନଃ ପୁନଃ ଘୋସୟାମୀ ପ୍ରସୃନ୍ବନ୍ତୁ ମନିସିଣଃ
ସ୍ଵତନ୍ତ୍ର
— କୋସଲୀ ଭାସା ନୋପ ଭାସା କଦାଚନ"
(Punah punar ghosayami Prasrunwantu manishina, Swatantraa Kosli bhasa, Nopa bhasa kadachana). "Kutek lokar gutek Bhasa Kosli amar Matru Bhasa"was his words that impress the mass to run the Kosli Bhasa Andolan. He is popularly known as 'Kosli bhashar Janak' (Father of Kosli Language) and also as 'Kosal Gaurav'and "KOSAL RATNA".

A well-known name in Kosli language, literature and movement, he was the first serious scholar who attempted a linguistic study of Kosli language. In fact, it was Joshi, who so emphatically announced that the language of the region was not Odia, but Kosli. Till his death he was not only producing seminal essays on uniqueness of Kosli Bhasa and literature but also promoted many amateur Kosli writers and poets. He was also among those who for the first time in 1986, submitted a memorandum to the President of India to include Kosli under Eighth Schedule. His small booklet Koshali Bhasar Samkhipta Parichay is considered as a sacred text by Kosli writers as well as leaders of the Kosal movement.

Gokulananda Mahapatra was an Indian scientist and science fiction writer, who popularized science in the Odia language. Mahapatra has authored over 95 science fiction and children science books. Some of his notable contributions are Krutrima Upagraha, Prithibi bahare Manisha, Chandra ra Mrutyu, Nishabda Godhuli, Madam Curie and Nila Chakra Bala Sapare. He was the founding member of Orissa Bigyana Prachar Samhiti with the objective of making science popular in the state of Orissa. He received Orissa Sahitya Akademy Award for his book E juga ra sreshtha abiskara.
Chakulia panda is a sect of people from the Indian state of Odisha who are mostly found to live in the southern Odisha. Subrat Kumar Prusty is an Indian Odia-language scholar, activist, social entrepreneur, literary critic and author. He is Member Secretary of the Institute of Odia Studies and Research, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He was instrumental in preparing the research documents, advocating the awarding of Classical Language status to Odia, forming Central Institute of Classical Odia, Odia University and implementation of the Odisha Official Language Act, 1954. He was awarded the Presidential Certificate of Honour and Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman – 2019 for Classical Odia.
Bargaon or Baragan is a village under Khariar Tahasil in Nuapada district of Odisha state in India. It is situated 10 km away from sub-district headquarters Khariar and 63 km towards south from district headquarters Nuapada. The word "Bargaon" is composed of two words: "Bara" means 'Divine' and "gaan" means 'village'. On the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the village was recognised as "Lok Kala Gram" of Nuapada district by the Dept. Of Language, Literature, and Culture, Government of Odisha.
Hussain Rabi Gandhi was an Indian Odia writer of the late-twentieth century, a politician, a public intellectual and a cultural activist hailing from the Indian state of Odisha. Being a founder member of Biju Janata Dal, he served as the general secretary of the party from upon its formation in 1998 till 2005. In 1994 the title of Biplabi Loka Kabi was conferred upon him by the Mayor of Cuttack. He was also awarded with the title of Utkala Jyoti in 1996 by the then Deputy chief minister of Odisha, Basant Kumar Biswal on the behalf of Freedom Fighter's Organisation. Gandhi primarily wrote in Odia language and was bestowed with the Secular India Harmony Award in 1993 by the former President of India, Giani Zail Singh and with the Gangadhar Meher Kabita award in 2015 for his notable contributions to the field of Odia poetry. Hussain served as the President of Odisha Sahitya Akademi (2008–2010). He was famously known as the Gandhi of Korei and was regarded as a bridge between Western Odisha and Coastal Odisha. He also served as Lead Member of Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT).
Yogimath is situated in Nuapada district at a distance of about 9 km from Khariar western Odisha border area and 67 km from Bhawanipatna of Kalahandi District. This place is famous for its neolithic cave paintings. In Yogimath caves the paintings are drawn by red paint over rock surfaces. The most significant pictures are of a bull followed by cow, calf and a man indicating the domestication of animal by man and agriculture. The past glory of this place is still unexplored. Near Yogimath, there is a mountain named Risipiti which is well known for producing clear echoes.
