Premier League Bowls was a bowls tournament staged between 2008 and 2011, set-up by Barry and Eddie Hearns' Matchroom Sport promotions. The tournament featured six world class bowls players from the World Bowls Tour (WBT) playing in a league format with two semi-finals and a final after the completion of the league stages.

History

The first two editions of the tournament were played indoors at Potters Leisure Resort in Great Yarmouth, England. [3] [4] The last two editions of the tournament were played outdoors in 2010 and 2011, after the event was moved to the Athena Beach Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus, [2] [5] with Wyldecrest Park Homes announced as the new tournament sponsors in 2010. Entrants

Only both of the Scottish former World Indoor champions and Pairs partners Alex Marshall and Paul Foster competed in all four editions of Premier League Bowls.

It replaced the Welsh Professional Championship, which ran annually from 1980 to 1991 and was open only to Welsh players. The Welsh Open is now the longest running ranking event after the World Championship and the UK Championship. Premier League Darts is a darts tournament which launched on 20 January 2005 on Sky Sports. Now played weekly from February to May, the event originally started as a fortnightly fixture in small venues around the United Kingdom. The tournament originally featured seven players, gradually expanded to ten by 2013, before reduced again from 2022 to eight players from the PDC circuit competing in a knockout style format, with nights also hosted in Europe at different venues. The top four players in the PDC Order of Merit are joined by four wildcard selections to make up the eight-person field. Alongside the World Championship and the World Matchplay, it is considered part of the sport's Triple Crown. The current sponsor is Cazoo.

The WPA World Nine-ball Championship is an annual professional nine-ball pool tournament contested since 1990. The championship is sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) and principally sponsored and organised by Matchroom Sport, who provide the event's official website branded as World Pool Championship. The championship is divided into men's, women's and wheelchair divisions.

The Premier League Snooker was a professional non-ranking snooker tournament. It was held from 1987 until 2012. The tournament was played in a round-robin format over a number of weeks, normally from mid-September to early-December, around the other World Snooker events in various locations.

The World Bowls Tour (WBT) is a limited company formed in September 1996 by the Professional Bowls Association, and the two major governing bodies for world flat green bowls, World Bowls and the World Indoor Bowls Council (WIBC).

The Champions League Twenty20, also referred to as the CLT20, was an annual international Twenty20 Cricket competition played between qualifying domestic teams from some major cricketing nations. The competition was launched in 2008 with the first edition held in October 2009. It was jointly owned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa, and was chaired by N. Srinivasan, who was also the chairman of the ICC. The Caribbean Premier League is an annual Twenty20 cricket tournament held in the Caribbean. The European Bowls Championship formerly the European Bowls Team Championships is a biennial continental lawn bowls tournament for European nations. From its inauguration in 1997 until September 2021, the tournament was organised by the European Bowls Union (EBU). Three events were held; Men's Pairs, Ladies Pairs and Mixed Fours, in which gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded. The overall champions are determined based on a points system.

The World Bowls Tour Awards are the annual awards ceremony hosted by the World Bowls Tour to recognise the achievements of the bowls players who compete on the World Bowls Tour (WBT). The annual event is usually held in January, which take place just before the World Indoor Bowls Championships begins. The annual World Bowls Tour Hall of Fame induction happens at the annual awards ceremony too, which was launched along with the inaugural World Bowls Tour Awards ceremony in 2008.

Julie Forrest is a Scottish bowls player.

Stephen Williams is a Welsh short mat bowls player, and four time singles world champion. Williams won the championship in consecutive tournaments in 2002, and 2004, and then again in 2010 and 2012. Williams has also won the world triples championship in 1994. Williams is also a multiple time national champion; and British Isles champion.
