Prickly Roses is a Ugandan drama film produced by Eleanor Nabwiso and directed by Mathew Nabwiso at Nabwiso Films in association with Akina Mama Wa Afrika, supported by Hivos. It stars Hellen Lukoma as Nankya, Eleanor Nabwiso as Nazziwa and Sarafina Muhawenimana as Kezia. [1] [2]

Summary

Nankya, Kezia and Nazziwa are poor young women working at a flower farm in Uganda. They have to deal with harsh working conditions at work and return home to face even more hardships. Nankya fights to break the chauvinistic chain. [3]

Premier

The film premiered on 13 February 2020 in Kampala under the campaign "Women @ Work". It explores the working conditions under which women work on flower gardens in Uganda in contrast with the cash value of the flowers on the market in Uganda and abroad. The film was set to open in theateres in Uganda in March 2020 but all theateres were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic that had reached Uganda in March 2020. [4]

<i>Beneath the Lies – The Series</i>

Beneath The Lies is a Ugandan television drama-mystery series created by Nana Kagga Macpherson and starring Flavia Tumusiime, Natasha Sinayobye, Gaetano Kagwa, Hellen Lukoma, Rabadaba, Deedan Muyira, Cedric Babu Ndilima, Patrick Salvado Idringi and Susan Naava as regular cast members.
The series was directed by Joseph Kitsha Kyasi and Tosh Gitonga. It was originally produced by Savannah MOON Productions, and Kinetic Media Group before all production was taken over by 40Plus Productions, a production house co-owned by Nana Kagga and Cedric Babu Ndilima. It airs on Sundays at 9:30 p.m. EAT, on New Vision Group's Urban TV Uganda.

Somizi Buyani Mhlongo is a South African media personality, television presenter, actor and choreographer. In 1992, he appeared on the musical and political film, Sarafina! which gained him prominence.He is also a reality TV star on his own reality TV show Living the Dream with Somizi Mhlongo became lead choreographer for numerous shows and events, including the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

MATCH is dedicated to funding women's rights movements and grassroots organizations working on women's rights worldwide. They have a particular interest in the global South. <i>Bed of Thorns</i> Ugandan drama film

Bed of Thorns (#Tosirika) is a Ugandan, all-female crew produced drama film directed by Eleanor Nabwiso and produced at Nabwiso Films. The film addresses the issue of gender based and domestic violence. It stars media personality Malaika Tenshi Nnyanzi, Diana Kahunde, youtuber and social media comedian Martha Kay, Agnes Kebirungi, Michael Wawuyo Jr., Housen Mushema, Sara Kisawuzi and Patrick Salvador Idringi. The film premiered on 30 March 2019 at a red carpet event at Century Cinema Kamwokya, Kampala.

<i>Kyaddala</i> Ugandan television series

Kyaddala is a Ugandan drama television series by Reach a Hand Uganda. The first season was produced by Emmanuel Ikubese Films and Reach a Hand Uganda. Set in a present day high school life, Kyaddala a Luganda word for "It's Real", focuses on real life social issues that affect young people across Africa and their attempts to overcome those issues. The series features actors and actresses from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and Nigeria. Kyaddala premiered on 27 September 2019 at Kingdom Kampala.

Margaret Komuhangi is a Ugandan politician. She is the elected Woman Member of Parliament for Nakasongola District and the representative for NRM, the ruling political party in Uganda. She previously served as the chairperson, committee on Gender, Labour and Social Development, from 2014 to 2018.

<i>Rain</i> (2016 film) Ugandan drama film

Rain is a Ugandan 2016 drama film directed by Daniel Mugerwa, written by Mary Nyanzi and produced by Eleanor and Mathew Nabwiso. The film was released on 20 August 2016 in Kampala and stars Eleanor Nabwiso, Mathew Nabwiso, Joel Okuyo Atiku, Phillip Luswata and Joanita Bewulira. The film received numerous awards in Uganda and abroad and won Best Women’s Rights Film award at the London Eye International Festival, organised and run by London Film Network Ltd at the Terbanacle Theater in London, Best Actress in East African and Best First time Director from FESTICAB a film festival in Burundi, Best Film in Africa and Middle East award from NUREN film festival in China and Best Screenplay at Uganda Film Festival Awards in Uganda.

Sanyu is a Ugandan drama television series that premiered on DStv Uganda's Pearl Magic Prime TV on 2 January 2020, at the premier of Multi Choice Uganda's premium network, Pearl Magic Prime. The series stars Catherine Namugenyi in the lead role as Sanyu, Eleanor Nabwiso, Housen Mushema second chance star Roger Mugisha Sanyu was nominated for Best TV series and Tracy Kababiito was nominated for Best Actress in a Drama series at the 8th Uganda Film Festival Awards.

Immaculate Akello is a Ugandan social entrepreneur, climate change activist, Human rights activist and lawyer whose main aim is to transform the lives of rural women in northern Uganda. Akello is the founder of Generation Engage Network, a youth led organization that focuses on environmental rights and environmental democracy in Northern and Central Uganda. Through this organization, she represented Uganda at the Vijjana Assembly in 2018 in Arusha, Tanzania and she was the speaker of the 2018 National Parliamentary youth moot in Uganda.
