Prickly Roses is a Ugandan drama film produced by Eleanor Nabwiso and directed by Mathew Nabwiso at Nabwiso Films in association with Akina Mama Wa Afrika, supported by Hivos. It stars Hellen Lukoma as Nankya, Eleanor Nabwiso as Nazziwa and Sarafina Muhawenimana as Kezia. [1] [2]
Nankya, Kezia and Nazziwa are poor young women working at a flower farm in Uganda. They have to deal with harsh working conditions at work and return home to face even more hardships. Nankya fights to break the chauvinistic chain. [3]
The film premiered on 13 February 2020 in Kampala under the campaign "Women @ Work". It explores the working conditions under which women work on flower gardens in Uganda in contrast with the cash value of the flowers on the market in Uganda and abroad. The film was set to open in theaters in Uganda in March 2020, but all theaters were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic that had reached Uganda in March 2020. [4]
Mbongeni Ngema was a South African playwright, lyricist, composer, director, choreographer, and theatre producer, best known for co-writing the 1981 play Woza Albert! and co-writing the 1988 musical Sarafina!. He was known for plays that reflected the spirit of black South Africans under apartheid, and won much praise for his work, but was also the subject of several controversies. He died in a car accident on 27 December 2023.

The emerging film industry in Uganda is known as Ugawood or sometimes Kinauganda by the locals. The 2005 production Feelings Struggle directed by Ashraf Ssemwogerere is credited with being the first Ugawood film. Many have asserted that this steadily growing film industry is derived from Hollywood, in the same manner as Nollywood and Bollywood. In a story that ran in a local newspaper in Uganda about the naming of the industry, filmmakers Kuddzu Isaac, Matt Bish and Usama Mukwaya were quoted as saying that Ugawood would be the most appropriate name for the industry.

Beneath The Lies is a Ugandan television drama-mystery series created by Nana Kagga Macpherson and starring Flavia Tumusiime, Natasha Sinayobye, Gaetano Kagwa, Hellen Lukoma, Rabadaba, Deedan Muyira, Cedric Babu Ndilima, Patrick Salvado Idringi and Susan Naava as regular cast members. The series was directed by Joseph Kitsha Kyasi and Tosh Gitonga. Irene Ovonji-Odida is a Ugandan lawyer, politician, and women's rights activist. A member of the Uganda Law Reform Commission, she contributed to the writing of the 1995 Ugandan Constitution and helped to shape the East African Community. She has worked for various charities including ActionAid and carried out election monitoring in Uganda and Tanzania. She was an elected member of the East African Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2006.

Bed of Thorns (#Tosirika) is a Ugandan, all-female crew produced drama film directed and produced by Eleanor Nabwiso under the Nabwiso Films banner. The film addresses the issue of gender-based and domestic violence. It stars media personality Malaika Tenshi Nnyanzi, Diana Kahunde, youtuber and social media comedian Martha Kay, Agnes Kebirungi, Michael Wawuyo Jr., Housen Mushema, Sara Kisawuzi and Patrick Salvador Idringi. The film premiered on 30 March 2019 at a red carpet event at Century Cinema Kamwokya, Kampala.
Kyaddala is a Ugandan drama television series by Reach a Hand Uganda. The first season was produced by Emmanuel Ikubese Films and Reach a Hand Uganda. Set in a present day high school life, Kyaddala a Luganda word for "It's Real", focuses on real life social issues that affect young people across Africa and their attempts to overcome those issues. The series features actors and actresses from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and Nigeria. Kyaddala premiered on 27 September 2019 at Kingdom Kampala.

Eunice Musiime is a Ugandan lawyer, feminist and development specialist. She is the current Executive Director of Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA). She is also the chairperson of the Federation of Uganda Women Lawyers (FIDA). On 1 January 2005, she wrote a framework report on Organic Agriculture in Uganda with other two authors, Boaz Keizire and Moses Muwanga.
Hilda Flavia Nakabuye is a Ugandan climate and environmental rights activist who founded Uganda's Fridays for Future movement. She also advocates for greater gender equality and racial diversity in the climate change movement. One of her environmental concerns is saving Lake Victoria, which connects Uganda to neighboring countries. As part of her activism, Nakabuye visits schools and communities to empower more women to join the fight against climate change, stating that "the climate crisis has no borders". She also created Climate Striker Diaries, an online platform to encourage digital awareness about climate change.

The film was released on 20 August 2016 in Kampala and stars Eleanor Nabwiso, Mathew Nabwiso, Joel Okuyo Atiku, Phillip Luswata and Joanita Bewulira. The film received numerous awards in Uganda and abroad and won Best Women’s Rights Film award at the London Eye International Festival, organised and run by London Film Network Ltd at the Terbanacle Theater in London, Best Actress in East African and Best First time Director from FESTICAB a film festival in Burundi, Best Film in Africa and Middle East award from NUREN film festival in China and Best Screenplay at Uganda Film Festival Awards in Uganda.

Sanyu is a Ugandan drama television series that premiered on DStv Uganda's Pearl Magic Prime TV on 2 January 2020, at the premiere of MultiChoice Uganda's premium network, Pearl Magic Prime. The series stars Catherine Namugenyi in the lead role as Sanyu, along with Eleanor Nabwiso and Housen Mushema. Sanyu was nominated for Best Television Drama, and Tracy Kababiito was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Drama at the 8th Uganda Film Festival Awards.
Christine Butegwa is a feminist, writer, entrepreneur, and gender and development activist based in Uganda. She is the author of the book titled, "The Mighty Angwech and More: Female Legends from Ugandan folklore". Christine is an interior designer and was the director of Rukundo Design Décor. In 2002, she co-produced a video, "A Tale of Ten Years: The Experience of Women and Gender Studies, Makerere University with Murerwa Rian". She is currently the founder and CEO of Jabali Consulting Ltd, a pan African gender and development consulting firm based in Kampala, Uganda.
