Prisonworld is the debut studio album by the German folk metal band Lyriel. It contains mostly balladesque songs

Folk metal is a fusion genre of heavy metal music and traditional folk music that developed in Europe during the 1990s. It is characterised by the widespread use of folk instruments and, to a lesser extent, traditional singing styles. It also sometimes features soft instrumentation influenced by folk rock.

Lyriel are a German heavy metal band who formed in autumn of 2003 in Gummersbach. Originally playing folk metal, they turned more towards symphonic and gothic metal. Lyriel has recorded five studio albums and published a DVD of a live performance.

A ballad is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music. Ballads derive from the medieval French chanson balladée or ballade, which were originally "danced songs". Ballads were particularly characteristic of the popular poetry and song of Ireland and Britain from the later medieval period until the 19th century. They were widely used across Europe, and later in Australia, North Africa, North America and South America. Ballads are often 13 lines with an ABABBCBC form, consisting of couplets of rhymed verse, each of 14 syllables. Another common form is ABAB or ABCB repeated, in alternating 8 and 6 syllable lines.

Concept

The song "Lind e-huil" is sung in Sindarin, one of the fictional Elvish languages created by J. R. R. Tolkien. "The Symmetry of Disfiguration" was inspired by Wendy and Richard Pini's Elfquest series. [1]

Sindarin is one of the fictional languages devised by J. R. R. Tolkien for use in his fantasy stories set in Arda, primarily in Middle-earth. Sindarin is one of the many languages spoken by the immortal Elves, called the Eledhrim[ɛˈlɛðrim] or Edhellim[ɛˈðɛllim] in Sindarin. The word Sindarin is itself a Quenya form. The only known Sindarin word for this language is Eglathrin, a word probably only used in the First Age.

Elvish languages are constructed languages used by Elves in a fantasy setting.

The Sonic Seducer and Rock Hard magazines interpreted the album as a tribute to Blackmore's Night. The latter review observed that while the album had been produced well the songs lacked a certain amount of pressure and did not really correspond to the Metal genre. [4] [3] Metal Hammer Germany compared singer Jessica Thierjung's voice to Doro Pesch and observed a frequent "Celtic mood" that was caused by the string instruments. [2]
