Antonia Eugenia "Nia" Vardalos is a Canadian-American actress, screenwriter, and producer of Greek descent. Her most notable work is the 2002 film My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which was based on a one-woman stage play she dramatized and in which she starred.

Margarita Ibrahimoff, better known as Rita Wilson, is an American actress, singer, songwriter, and producer. The series is a continuation of the 2002 movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding and was produced by Sony Pictures Television and Tom Hanks's Playtone Productions for CBS. The two lead characters' names are changed, from Toula and Ian, to Nia and Thomas.

Playtone is an American film and television production company and record label established in 1998 by actor Tom Hanks and producer Gary Goetzman.
