Propeller Recordings is a Norwegian independent record label, [1] launched in 2003 in Oslo. It has grown into an influential label both in its home city as well as worldwide, and has now expanded to include a UK office based in London.

Contents

The label operates across a wide number of genres and concentrates on Norwegian artists who have commercial potential worldwide. [2] The current roster including Dagny, Highasakite, Sløtface, Moddi, Apothek, The Fjords, Hanne Hukkelberg, Frøkedal and Thea & The Wild.

Propeller Recordings also now boasts sister label 0E0E [3] (pronounced naughty-naughty) founded in 2015 in London, UK as a singles club. 0E0E has grown over the years and includes current artists such as Tempesst, Harlea and PLGRMS.

The label also set up Propeller Communications; [4] an in-house online and radio PR service for all Propeller Recordings and 0E0E artists as well as external clients. Because of this, it covers a wide varieties or artists across many different genres. [5]

History

In 2011, as a result of a competitive review by jury deliberation, the label was awarded a 3-year subsidy from Music Export Norway under the terms of the Music Export Norway's Export Program. This is funding to the tune of up to NOK 300,000 ($50,000 USD) per year for up to three years. The total value per project can be up to NOK 900,000 (US$150,000). [6]

At the start of 2017 it was announced that 5 artists from Propeller Recordings - Highasakite, Dagny, Moddi, Marte Wulff and Frøkedal - had received nominations for the Spellemannprisen awards, with Highasakite and Dagny receiving two nominations each. Often referred to as the Norwegian Grammy Awards [7] the ceremony is highly prestigious and seen as the highest accolade a Norwegian musician can receive in their home country - with previous winners including A-Ha, Aurora, Kygo, Susanne Sundfør. The ceremony took place on 28 January 2017.

Hanne Hukkelberg is a Norwegian singer-songwriter and producer from Kongsberg, Norway.

The Oslo Opera House is the home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and the national opera house in Norway. The building is situated in the Bjørvika neighbourhood of central Oslo, at the head of the Oslofjord. It is operated by Statsbygg, the government agency which manages property for the Norwegian government. The structure contains 1,100 rooms in a total area of 49,000 m2 (530,000 sq ft). The main auditorium seats 1,364 and two other performance spaces can seat 200 and 400. The main stage is 16 m (52 ft) wide and 40 m (130 ft) deep. The angled exterior surfaces of the building are covered with marble from Carrara, Italy and white granite and make it appear to rise from the water. It is the largest cultural building constructed in Norway since Nidarosdomen was completed circa 1300.

Spellemannprisen is a Norwegian music award presented to Norwegian musicians. The award was established by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. First awarded in 1973, the prize honours musicians from the previous year; it is still awarded annually, usually in January or February. The Spellemann committee, composed of members of IFPI Norway and FONO, manages the award and acts as the judge. 21 categories are currently awarded, in addition to other honorary and industry awards the committee may give. In 2020 and 2021, the award show was held digitally due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2010, after just six months, the duo started working on their debut album. The album All That Floats Will Rain was released in 2012.

Her single "Somebody" won Song of the Year at P3 Gull 2020 and her 2017 track "Love You Like That" was the basis for Katy Perry's "Never Really Over" (2019). She frequently performs at festivals in Norway and the United Kingdom including Øyafestivalen, Stavernfestivalen, and Bergenfest.

The Bendiksen Award, or Bendiksenprisen in Norwegian, is a music award granted by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and awarded by the Norwegian Artists' Association, GramArt. The award was established in 2009. The Award is meant to contribute to the development of talent in Norwegian pop music industry, and "be a contribution to an artist that already has established a career, that either has one commercial release or conduct concert performances of a certain scale". The winner receives 100,000 Norwegian kroner.

Kåre Christoffer Vestrheim is a Norwegian record producer, musician and composer from Sarpsborg, Norway. He plays guitar and keyboards. He is also the co-founder of Propeller Recordings, which has released albums for the artists Hanne Hukkelberg, Superfamily, Katzenjammer, Moddi, Team Me and Highasakite. He has also composed film scores for Norwegian pictures.

Sløtface, formerly known as Slutface, are a Norwegian pop punk band from Stavanger. Formed in 2012, the group started when vocalist Haley Shea and guitarist Tor-Arne Vikingstad began writing songs together, later being joined by drummer Halvard Skeie Wiencke who had previously played in a hardcore band with Tor-Arne and bassist Lasse Lokøy. Releasing their first single "Angst" in 2014, the band signed to Propeller Recordings record label in the summer of 2015. In October 2015, they released "Shave My Head" alongside B-side "Get My Own". The release was succeeded by their third single "Kill Em With Kindness" in January 2016.
