Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, often referred to by his initials NTR, was an Indian actor, film director, film producer, screenwriter, film editor, philanthropist and politician who served as a former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three terms. He is regarded as one of the most influential actors of Indian cinema. He starred in over 300 films, predominantly in Telugu cinema, and was referred to as "Viswa Vikhyatha Nata Sarvabhouma". Rao received three National Film Awards for co-producing Thodu Dongalu (1954) and Seetharama Kalyanam (1960) under National Art Theater, Madras, and for directing Varakatnam (1970). In 1968, The Government of India honoured him with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award, for his contributions to Indian cinema. In 2013, Rao was voted as "Greatest Indian Actor of All Time" in a CNN-IBN national poll conducted on the occasion of the Centenary of Indian Cinema.
Telugu cinema, also known as Tollywood, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Telugu language, widely spoken in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Based in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, Telugu cinema has become the largest film industry in India by box-office revenue as of 2021. Telugu films sold 23.3 crore tickets in 2022, the highest among all Indian film industries. As of 2023, Andhra Pradesh has the highest number of movie screens in India.

Bhakta Prahlada is a 1932 Indian Telugu-language Hindu mythological film directed by H. M. Reddy and produced by Ardeshir Irani of Imperial Film Company. It is the first sound film of Telugu cinema. It features Sindhoori Krishna Rao as the titular Prahlada, along with Munipalle Subbayya, Surabhi Kamalabai, Doraswamy Naidu, Chitrapu Narasimha Rao, and L. V. Prasad. No complete synopsis of the film is known to survive, but it is an adaptation of a play of the same name.
Kota Srinivasa Rao is an Indian character actor known for his work primarily in Telugu cinema and Telugu theatre. He has also starred in a few films in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam. As a former politician, Rao has served as the MLA from Vijayawada East in Andhra Pradesh, India from 1999 to 2004. He made his debut with the Telugu film Pranam Khareedu in 1978. He starred in over 750 feature films. He has received nine state Nandi Awards in various categories of villain, character actor, and supporting actor. In 2012, he has garnered the SIIMA Award for his work in Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum. In 2015, he received India's fourth highest civilian honour Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Thene Manasulu is a 1965 Indian Telugu-language romance film directed by Adurthi Subba Rao and produced by C. Sundaram under the Babu Movies banner. The film stars Krishna, Ram Mohan, Sukanya, and Sandhya Rani in lead roles. Notably, it was the first Telugu social film to be shot entirely in colour. The story was based on the novel Vakrinchina Saralarekhalu by K. R. K. Mohan.
Bhakta Jayadeva is a 1961 Indian Telugu-language biographical film, based on the life of 12th Century Sanskrit Poet Jayadeva, produced by Komaravolu Narayana Rao, G. Paramdhama Reddy under the Lalitha Kala Nikethan banner and directed by P. V. Rama Rao, while Ramakrishna took care of direction supervision. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Anjali Devi and music composed by Saluri Rajeshwara Rao.
Surabhi Kamalabai (1913–1977) was an Indian actress who worked in Telugu theatre and Telugu cinema. She has the distinction of being the first Telugu actress in a talkie film with Bhakta Prahlada (1932), directed by H. M. Reddy. She played the role of Leelavathi, the wife of Hiranyakasipa. Since then she acted in about 30 films, including Savitri (1933), Pathala Bhairavi (1951), Malliswari (1951), Illarikam (1959) and Velugu Needalu (1961).
Sri Sarathi Studios is a film studio facility located in Ameerpet, Hyderabad, India. Established in 1956, it was the first film studio facility in Hyderabad and was built by Yarlagadda Sivarama Prasad, the Raja of Challapalli. The first film shot in the studio was Maa Inti Mahalakshmi (1959), which also holds the distinction of being the first Telugu film entirely shot in Hyderabad.
Kalyanam Raghuramaiah (1901–1975), popularly known as Eelapata Raghuramaiah, was an Indian actor, and thespian known for his works in Telugu cinema, and Telugu theatre. A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and the Padmashri, He was known for the roles of Krishna or Dushyantha, Bhavanisankar, Narada etc. He performed those roles for about 60 years. He indulged in elaborate raga alapana, based on different ragas while rendering padyams.
Koccharlakota Satyanarayana was a Telugu film and drama actor and playback singer during the early period of Telugu cinema.
Balireddy Prudhviraj is an Indian actor and politician who appears in Telugu films. Known for his comic roles, he has acted in over 100 films. He is popularly known by the moniker 30 Years Industry, which was a dialogue mouthed by him in the 2002 film Khadgam.
Sri Rama Paduka Pattabhishekam is a 1932 Indian Telugu-language Hindu mythological drama film directed by Sarvottam Badami. It is notable for being the second Telugu talkie film. The film stars renowned stage actor Yadavalli Suryanarayana as Lord Rama, alongside C. S. R. Anjaneyulu and Surabhi Kamalabai.
Pothina Doondeswara Rao, popularly known as Doondi or Dhoondy, was an Indian film producer and director noted for his work in Telugu cinema. His career spanned from the 1950s to the mid-1970s, during which he produced over 60 films in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Tamil languages. In 2005, Doondi served as the Chairman of the Nandi Awards Committee.
SIIMA Award for Best Comedian – Telugu is presented by Vibri media group as part of its annual South Indian International Movie Awards, for the best acting done by an actor/actress in a comic role in Telugu films. The award was first given in 2012 for films released in 2011.
Sakunthala is a 1932 Telugu-language film directed by Sarvottam Badami. Produced by Select Pictures, it was based on the renowned play Abhignana Sakuntalam by Kalidasa, the film features Surabhi Kamalabai in the titular role of Sakuntala and Yadavalli Suryanarayana as Dushyanta. It is among the first ten talkie films made in Telugu cinema.
Sita Kalyanam is a 1934 Telugu-language Hindu mythological film directed by Chitrapu Narasimha Rao and produced by Pinapala Venkata Dasu under the banner of Vel Pictures. The film stars Bezawada Rajaratnam, Master Kalyani, and Madhavapeddi Venkatramayya, with music composed by Gali Penchala Narasimha Rao. It is considered the first Telugu talkie to feature outdoor sequences and the first Telugu talkie produced in Madras. Additionally, it was the second Telugu talkie film produced by a Telugu person. Released on October 6, 1934, Sita Kalyanam was a commercial success.
