Founded in 2010, the Puget Sound Collegiate League (PSCL) is a collegiate summer baseball league based in the Olympia, Washington area.

Collegiate summer baseball leagues are amateur baseball leagues in the United States featuring players who have attended at least one year of college and have at least one year of athletic eligibility remaining. Generally, they operate from early June to early August. Players use wooden baseball bats, hence the common nickname of these leagues as "wood bat leagues".

Olympia, Washington State capital and city in Washington, United States

Olympia is the capital of the U.S. state of Washington and the county seat of Thurston County. European settlers claimed the area in 1846, with the Treaty of Medicine Creek initiated in 1854, and the Treaty of Olympia initiated in January 1856.

The league also manages a summer youth league, camps and tournaments. In addition, a high school league, Pudget Sound Fall Ball, was formed for area high school teams.

History

The league was originated by the forming of the Tacoma Cardinals (2006) followed by the Olympia Athletics (2007). PSCL opened its first season in 2010 with six teams. [1]

League founder and president Matt Acker also owns the West Coast Guns, an independent team. [2] In 2014 Acker took ownership of the Kitsap BlueJackets semi-professional team, who compete in the Pacific International League (PIL) starting in 2017. [3] [4]

Kitsap BlueJackets

The Kitsap BlueJackets are an amateur baseball team located in Bremerton, Washington. They played in the West Coast League, a collegiate summer baseball league, from 2004 to 2016. Kitsap calls the Gene Lobe Field at Kitsap County Fairgrounds and Event Center home.

Thurston County Senators, an affiliated team who play a full league schedule, are not eligible for PSCL playoffs. The semi-professional team is made up of former PSCL alumni and compete in elite tournaments, including the Grand Forks International and World Baseball Challenge. [5]

The Grand Forks International (GFI) is an annual international invitational baseball tournament hosted at James Donaldson Park in Grand Forks, British Columbia. The GFI is the largest invitational baseball tournament in Canada and is a large part of the culture in Grand Forks. The tournament is also notable for being run entirely by volunteers.

World Baseball Challenge

The World Baseball Challenge is an international baseball competition based in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. The tournament was established in 2002 by Larry Seminoff, who is also the founder of the Grand Forks International.

NOTE: Senators are an affiliate of the PSCL. The team also plays games against the teams of Pacific International League, West Coast League, tournaments and other amateur teams.

West Coast League

The West Coast League (WCL) is a collegiate summer baseball league founded in 2005, comprising teams from Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. The WCL was previously named the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League (WCCBL), but in 2008 renamed as the West Coast League. The league is designed to develop college talent, and only current college-eligible players are allowed to participate. The West Coast League has produced dozens of professional players, including a number of major leaguers. League teams are operated just like professional minor league teams. The WCL season runs from early June through the middle of August.

Bremerton, Washington City in Washington, United States

Bremerton is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 41,500 according to the 2018 State Estimate, making it the largest city on the Kitsap Peninsula. Bremerton is home to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and the Bremerton Annex of Naval Base Kitsap. Palm Springs Stadium

Palm Springs Stadium is a stadium in Palm Springs, California. It is primarily used for baseball. It used to be named Angels Stadium and was the home field of the Palm Springs Suns of the Western Baseball League in 1995 and 1996. Palm Springs Stadium is the home of the Palm Springs Power, of the collegiate summer Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association. In 2018 the stadium is now the official home of the Palm Springs Collegiate League. The stadium has a seating capacity of 5,185.

Humboldt Crabs

The Humboldt Crabs are a collegiate summer baseball team located in Arcata, California. Playing in every season since they were founded in 1945 by Lou Bonomini, later joined by Ned Barsuglia, the Crabs are the oldest continually-operated summer collegiate baseball team in American baseball. Every Crabs game is broadcast on KGOE 1480 AM by longtime broadcasters Benjamin “the Professor” Shaeffer and Bob “Hoke” Holcomb. Most games also include the Crab Grass Band, formed in 1985, that play songs in between innings.

Joe Sullivan (pitcher) American baseball player

Joe Sullivan, was a Major League pitcher who played five season in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers (1935–1936), Boston Red Sox (1939–1940), Boston Braves (1941), and Pittsburgh Pirates (1941). In five major league seasons, Sullivan had a record of 30–37 with a 4.01 ERA. A knuckleball specialist, Sullivan once pitched 12 straight innings of scoreless relief.

Kitsap Pumas

Kitsap SC Pumas were an American soccer team based in Bremerton, Washington, United States. The team played in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the fourth tier of the American soccer pyramid. From its foundation in 2009 to 2016, the club played in the Premier Development League (PDL), as a professional club. As part of the agreement upon leaving PDL after the 2016 season, the club was unable to use the "Kitsap Pumas" name during the 2017 season while playing in NPSL. The club was officially renamed Kitsap SC until September 1, 2017 when the Pumas name was restored. The club announced on July 20, 2018 that it would cease operations due to declining attendance.

West Sound Warriors

The West Sound Warriors were a junior ice hockey that played at the Bremerton Ice Center in Bremerton, Washington. Formerly, the team was a USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier III ice hockey team that played in the Northern Pacific Hockey League (NorPac/NPHL) and the United States Premier Hockey League-USP3 (USPHL-USP3). In the 2017–18 season, the team was an AAU-sanctioned junior team in the Western States Hockey League. The WSHL franchise was sold to a new ownership group in Bremerton after the one season and became the West Sound Admirals.

Matt Frattin Canadian ice hockey forward

Matthew Frattin is a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who is currently under contract with Barys Astana of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He began his NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the organization that drafted him 99th overall in 2007. Frattin had also previously played in the NHL for the Los Angeles Kings and Columbus Blue Jackets before rejoining Toronto in 2014 via a trade. Frattin spent a further season and a half in the Maple Leafs organization before being included in a 9-player trade with the Ottawa Senators.

Carter Camper American ice hockey player

Carter James Camper is an American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL). In 2010, after four seasons in the NCAA, Camper signed with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). Since turning professional, he has played most of his professional career in the American Hockey League (AHL). In February 2014, Camper was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and in July 2014, Camper joined the NHL Ottawa Senators organization as a free agent. In July 2015, he signed as a free agent with the Washington Capitals.

Deck McGuire American baseball player

William Deck McGuire is an American professional baseball pitcher for Samsung Lions of the KBO League. He played college baseball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Year in 2009. He previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cincinnati Reds, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Angels.

Puget Sound Outcast Derby (PSOD) is a men's roller derby league based in Tacoma, Washington. The league was founded in 2007 by Chuck“Hollywood Hendrick, and consists of a two teams, The Puget Sound Outcasts and the Puget Sound Castaways which plays teams from other leagues.

Ryan Dzingel American ice hockey player

Ryan Dzingel is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to becoming professional, Dzingel played three seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes where he was named to the 2013–2014 All-Big Ten First Team and West First-Team All-American.

The 2015 NCAA Division I baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began in February 2015. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2015 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament and 2015 College World Series. The College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA Tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, ended on June 24, 2015 with the final game of the best-of-three championship series between Vanderbilt and Virginia, won by Virginia.

Claire Eccles is a Canadian baseball player. She is a left-handed pitcher who throws three pitches, including a knuckleball. She is a member of the women's national baseball team of Canada, and has competed in the 2014 and 2016 Women's Baseball World Cups as well as the 2015 Pan American Games. In 2017, she joined the Victoria HarbourCats of the West Coast League and became the first woman to play in that league. She is also a member of the softball team at the University of British Columbia.
