Purity FM is a radio station broadcasting on 102.5 MHz FM in southeastern Nigeria, located at Mgbakwu, a village in Awka North Local Government Area, Awka, Anambra State. It is a local station owned by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria. [1] [2]

Purity FM started full operation on 1 July 2005. [1] It was previously known as Gateway FM. A variety of music and talk programmes are broadcast in English and Igbo. [1]

Awka is the capital city of Anambra State, Nigeria. The city was declared capital on 21 August 1991, after the creation of Anambra and Enugu state, which moved the capital from Enugu to Awka. The city has an estimated population of 301,657 as of the 2006 Nigerian census, and over 2.5 million as of a 2018 estimate. The city is located at199.1 kilometres (123.7 mi), by road, directly north of Port Harcourt in the centre of the densely-populated Igbo heartland in South East Nigeria.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka also called UNIZIK or NAU in short is a Federal university in Nigeria. It consists of two campuses in Anambra State. Its main campus is located in Awka while the other campus is located at Nnewi. There are also other campuses of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. These include Agulu in Aniocha local government area and Ifite-Ogwuari in Ayamelum local government area in Anambra State. It is one of the federal universities which are overseen and accredited by the National Universities Commission. The university is named after Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. The academic staff of the University belong to Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The staff Union is known to grant scholarship to indigent students just like other philanthropists. It has a total population of about 34,000 students.

Paul University, Awka (PUA) is located in Awka, Anambra State in Nigeria. It is a private Christian University. It was founded in 2009 by Bishops of the five ecclesiastical provinces of the Anglican Church East of the Niger to provide undergraduate training in Arts, Natural and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences and Management. The university which is fully residential has an estimated enrollment of around 400 students and has replaced St Paul's University College which was founded in 1904 by the Church Missionary Society of the Church of England to train church workers and teachers. Although, Paul University Awka is a Private University, the Anambra State government under Governor Peter Obi donated cash and vehicles for its infrastructural upgrade and development.

It is part of BBC foreign language output of 33 languages, of which five are African languages. The language service include radio station, Abuja bureau office and daily updated website which serves as a news portal and provides information as well as analyses in text, audio and video and provides online access to radio broadcasts. The radio service is broadcast from Broadcasting House in London and preliminary editing done at BBC bureau office in Abuja.
