Shiv Sena was a right-wing Marathi regionalist and Hindu ultranationalist political party in India founded in 1966 by Bal Thackeray,who was later succeeded by Uddhav Thackeray. Initially apolitical,the organisation was patronised by the then Chief Minister Vasantrao Naik who used it for curbing trade unions and maintain stranglehold of the Congress. The organisation at the same time carried out pro-Marathi nativist movement in Mumbai in which it agitated for preferential treatment for the Marathi people over migrants from other parts of India.

Gawli and his brother Kishor (Pappa) entered the Mumbai underworld in the 1970s,when they joined the "Byculla Company",a criminal gang led by Rama Naik and Babu Reshim,operating in the central Mumbai areas of Byculla,Parel and Saat Rasta. In 1988,after Rama Naik was killed in a police encounter,Gawli took over the gang and began operating it from his residence,Dagdi Chawl. Under his control,the gang controlled most criminal activities in the central Mumbai areas. Throughout the late eighties and nineties,Gawli's gang was involved in a power struggle with Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company gang. Gawli is also the founder of the Akhil Bharatiya Sena political party based in Maharashtra.
Raj Shrikant Thackeray is an Indian politician and the founding chairperson of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS),a regional political party. He is the nephew of ShivSena Founder Balasaheb Thackeray.

It was founded on 9 March 2006 in Mumbai by Raj Thackeray after he left the Shiv Sena party due to differences with his cousin Uddhav Thackeray,who later became the 19th Chief Minister Of Maharashtra and to his sidelining by the Shiv Sena in major decisions like distribution of election tickets.

Although a parliamentary democracy,Indian politics has increasingly become dynastic,possibly due to the absence of a party organization,independent civil society associations that mobilize support for the party,and centralized financing of elections. Family members have also led the Congress party for most of the period since 1978 when Indira Gandhi floated the then Congress(I) faction of the party. It also is fairly common in many political parties in Maharashtra. The dynastic phenomenon is seen from national level down to district level and even village level.The three-tier structure of Panchayati Raj established in the 1960s also helped to create and consolidate the dynastic phenomenon in rural areas. Apart from government,political families also control cooperative institutions,mainly cooperative sugar factories,district cooperative banks in the state,and since the 1980s private for profit colleges. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party also features several senior leaders who are dynasts. In Maharashtra,the NCP has particularly high level of dynasticism.
Ravindra Vishwanath Gaikwad is an Indian politician associated with Shiv Sena,and was a member of the 16th Lok Sabha of India from 2014 to 2019 as a member of that party. He did not contest Lok Sabha elections in 2019. In 2014,he had contested from Osmanabad constituency of Maharashtra,and defeated sitting MP Padamsinha Bajirao Patil who contested from Nationalist Congress Party by 235,325 votes by obtaining 607,699 votes against 373,374. Before 2014,he was a two time MLA from omerga constituency. He has also been the Chairman of Killari Sugar Factory. He is a director on the agriculture board committee in the Central Government of India. His son Kiran Ravindra Gaikwad lost the Zilla parishad Osmanabad election from kunhali constituency. The loss to prakash Ashte was widely discussed in media.
Eknath Sambhaji Shinde is an Indian politician who is serving as the 20th and current Chief Minister of Maharashtra since 30 June 2022. He is also serving as the Leader of Shiv Sena since February 2023 and the Leader of the House,Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since July 2022. He is also the Member of Legislative Assembly for the Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency of Thane,Maharashtra since 2009 and was formerly the MLA of Thane constituency from 2004 to 2009.

Shiv Sena,formerly Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena and also referred to as Shinde Sena or Shinde faction is the Bharatiya Janata Party aligned split of the original Shiv Sena party. The party was formed in 2022 in Maharashtra,India under the leadership of Eknath Shinde,as a result of his split from the Shiv Sena led by then CM Uddhav Thackeray. On 17 February 2023,the ECI granted the Shinde faction,'Bow and Arrow' symbol and party name 'Shiv Sena',favoring them in the dispute. Uddhav Thackeray filed a petition against the decision at Supreme Court,contending that the ECI decision was incorrect;the case is ongoing.
