Pushpalatha is an Indian actress, who has worked predominantly in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam language films. She has acted as heroine and character roles in more than 100 films. Her debut film was Sengottai Singam , released in 1958. When Pushpalatha co-starred with A. V. M. Rajan in Naanum Oru Penn , the two fell in love and got married. [1] In 1964, she was a model for Lux soap. [2]

Early career

Pushpalatha's native home is Mettupalayam, Coimbatore. [3] Her father sold brass and silver. She was born in a strict Chettinadu Catholic family. She is the fifth child out of 8 children. [3] She completed Bharatnatyam at the age of 9. In 1955, She had a cameo role in the movie Nalla Thangai , produced and directed by actor S. A. Natarajan.[ citation needed ]

Film career

She made her debut in the movie Konga Nattu Thangam (1962). Following that, She has acted as lead actress and supporting actress in more than one hundred films, such as Sarada , Paar Magaley Paar , Naanum Oru Penn , Yarukku Sontham , Thaaye Unakkaga , Karpooram , Jeevanaamsam , Dharisanam , Kalyanaraman, Sakalakalla Vallavan, Simla Special , Puthu Vellam and Ammavum Neeye Appavum Neeye. She has also acted in several Telugu and Malayalam films. Pushpalatha has produced two films. Both of them failed at the box office. [4]

Family

AVM Rajan and Pushpalatha were one of the popular star couples in Tamil cinema. Pushpalatha was a Christian, while AVM Rajan was a fervent Hindu devoted to Lord Muruga. Pushpalatha has produced two films. Both of the films failed. Pushpalatha financially suffered for that reason. The couple has two daughters, one of whom is Mahalakshmi who has acted in some films. Their family has converted to Christianity, doing full time ministry today. [5]

Shanmugasundaram, known by his stage name A.V.M. Rajan, is an Indian preacher and former actor who was active in Tamil cinema during the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Pudukottai, Shanmugasundaram was very eager to join cinema though he held a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Madras University. His higher secondary was at Christian Sweden Mission High School. His parents wanted to see him as a police officer. He came to Madras to write the examination, but didn't fit for the exam. He was not confident as he couldn't straighten his left hand fractured at the age of 14. Instead, while working at Raj Bhavan Guindy Chennai, he tried his luck in cinema knocking on the doors of every film company to earn a better income. At long last, his relentless efforts yielded result by getting him the opportunity to enter cinema through the film Aayiram Kaalathu Payiru in which he was introduced as "Raja B.A.". Soon after, he was signed to act in the AVM's film Naanum Oru Penn also.

Rajasree, also known as Rajasri or Rajashri, is an Indian actress active from 1956 to 1979. She is particularly famous for her portrayal as a princess in several folklore Telugu movies opposite N. T. Rama Rao and Tadepalli Lakshmi Kanta Rao and for acting alongside Ravichandran in the Tamil comedy films Neeyum Naanum, Kadhalikka Neram Illai and Delhi Mappilai. Notable among Rajasri's roles in non-folklore social films in Tamil are as Nimmi in the Tamil hit comedy film Kaadhalikka Neramillai, remade as Preminchi Choodu in Telugu, as movie star Bhama in Tamil film Bama Vijayam. She was credited as Gracy in the Malayalam movies she starred in her career since her debut film Bharya (1962), directed by Kunchako. She has acted as both heroine and mother to stalwarts such as Rajkumar, M. G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan. She was the heroine in Rajkumar's debut movie Bedara Kannappa and also Sivaji's debut movie Parasakthi. She has acted in over 1,000 films in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
