Qerim Qerimi (born December 10, 1980, in SFR Yugoslavia) is an Albanian-Kosovar university professor of politics and international law at the Kosovar University of Prishtina. He has been the rector of Hasan Prishtina University since November 2022. [1]

Biography

Qerim Qerimi has been a professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Pristina. He teaches Public International Law, International Human Rights Law and International Organizations, as well as Environmental Law, International Environmental Law and Diplomatic and Consular Law. Querim Qerimi is a visiting professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Antwerp in Belgium, a member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, Chair of the Sub-Commission on the Protection of National Minorities, and former vice-chair of the Sub-Commission on the Rule of Law of the Venice Commission. Previously, Qerimi was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, Germany, and spent graduate and postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard University as a recipient of the U.S. Government's J. William Fulbright Fellowship has attended The Hague Academy of International Law. [4] Qerimi is a former member of the European Commission.

In the rectorate election to succeed Marjan Dema and Naser Sahiti, Qerimi successfully won against five other candidates in 2022. [5]

The University of Pristina is a public university located in Pristina, Kosovo. It is the institution that emerged after the disestablishment of the University of Pristina (1969–1999) as a result of the Kosovo War. The inauguration of the university was a historical occurrence not only for the people of Kosovo, but for the whole Albanian nation. On 15 February, the solemn Parliament session took place, which is also proclaimed as The University of Pristina's Day. In the composition of the newly established University of Pristina were faculties with their headquarters in Pristina: the Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Law and Economics, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine. Now the University of Pristina has 17 faculties, of which 14 are academic faculties and 3 are faculties of applied sciences. Halil Guven is a Cypriot-born professor, currently serving as the Dean of San Diego State University - Georgia. He was a Vice Dean of SDSU Georgia for four years before then and was one of the coordinators of the project at the time of its conception. Dr. Güven served as a Rector at three different universities in Turkey and in Cyprus. He served as the rector of Istanbul Bilgi University appointed in the academic year of 2009–2010, Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), North Cyprus in 2004–2007, and Bahçeşehir University, Istanbul, Turkey in 1999–2003. He received his B.S. degree from Boğaziçi University, his M.S. degree from Mississippi State University on Fulbright Scholarship (1981), and his Ph.D. degree from University of Houston, in Mechanical Engineering(1983). Alongside his 20+ articles in energy systems in peer-reviewed journals, Güven has edited books and published book chapters on Globalization, Leadership, Clash of civilizations and Education. <span class="mw-page-title-main">University of Pristina (1969–1999)</span>

The University of Pristina was founded in the Socialist Autonomous Province of Kosovo, Socialist Republic of Serbia, Yugoslavia, in the city of Pristina, for the academic year 1969–1970 and functioned until 1999. However, owing to political upheaval, war, successive mutual expulsions of faculty of one ethnicity or the other, and resultant pervasive ethnic-based polarisation, there came to be two disjoint institutions using the same name, albeit idiosyncratically to reflect ethnic identity. Albanian-language activity continues at the original location, whilst the Serbian-language University of Priština has relocated to North Mitrovica, where it maintains its place within the Serbian education system.

The literature of Kosovo is composed of literary texts written in Albanian, Serbian, Bosnian, and Turkish, specifically by authors of Kosovo. Kosovo produced several prominent writers in the Ottoman era. However, Ottoman authorities banned the written use of the Albanian language until 1912. This policy continued during Serb rule until the outbreak of World War II.

Prishtina is the epicenter of sport in Kosovo, where activity is organized across amateur and professional levels, sport organizations and clubs, regulated by the Kosovo Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. Prishtina is known for their success in Sports such as Football, Boxing, Basketball and Futsal. They compete for five seasons in the Yugoslav First League between 1983 and 1988 in which their best finish came in their first ever season in 1983-84 finishing in 8th place. In the same season they reached the Mitropa Cup finals of 1983-84, were FC Prishtina finished Runners up to Eisenstadt from Austria. as well as reaching the semifinals in the Yugoslav Cup in 1987-88.
