The politics of Tajikistan takes place in a framework of a presidential republic, whereby the President is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. Legislative power is vested in both the executive branch and the two chambers of parliament.

Its annual budget for not-for-profit activities is approximately US $ 950 million – mainly in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The AKDN works in 30 countries around the world, and it employs over 80,000 paid staff, mostly in developing countries. While the agencies are secular, they are guided by Islamic ethics, which bridge faith and society.
The Panj, also known as Pyandzh or Pyanj, is a tributary of the Amu Darya. The river is 921 kilometres (572 mi) long and has a basin area of 114,000 square kilometres (44,000 sq mi). It forms a considerable part of the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border.

The Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a family of institutions created by Aga Khan IV with distinct but complementary mandates to improve the welfare and prospects of people in the developing world, particularly in Asia and Africa. It focuses on the revitalization of communities in the Muslim world—physical, social, cultural, and economic. The AKTC was founded in 1988 and is registered in Geneva, Switzerland, as a private non-denominational philanthropic foundation.
The Tajikistan–Afghanistan Friendship Bridge connects the two banks of Darvaz region across the Panj River separating Tajikistan and Afghanistan, at the town of Qal'ai Khumb. It was opened on 6 July 2004.

The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan is the government of the autonomous territory of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Its powers and structure are set out in the 2009 Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Order, in which 10 districts come under its authority and jurisdiction. The government includes the cabinet, selected from members the Gilgit–Baltistan Assembly, and the non-political civil staff within each department. The province is governed by a unicameral legislature with the head of government known as the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister, invariably the leader of a political party represented in the Assembly, selects members of the Cabinet. The Chief Minister and Cabinet are thus responsible the functioning of government and are entitled to remain in office so long as it maintains the confidence of the elected Assembly. The head of state of the province is known as the Governor. The terms Government of Gilgit–Baltistan or Gilgit–Baltistan Government are often used in official documents. The seat of government is in Gilgit, thus serving as the capital of the territory.
Shamsh Kassim-Lakha's career is characterized by entrepreneurial leadership of diplomatic, educational, healthcare, manufacturing, and venture capital institutions of the Aga Khan Development Network as well as in public service. Under the vision of His Highness the Aga Khan, as Executive Chairman of the Board Executive Committee, he led the planning, building, and operation of the University of Central Asia (UCA), a regional institution founded by the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and His Highness the Aga Khan with campuses in the mountain areas of the three countries. He was the Diplomatic Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network in the Kyrgyz Republic from 2014-2017. He is currently Senior Advisor, Aga Khan Foundation Canada, in which capacity he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Central Asia and advises the Foundation on its work in Central and South Asia as well as Eastern Africa.
Qohir Rasulzoda (Tajik: Қоҳир Расулзода, Qohir Rasulzoda; born Abduqohir Abdurasulovich Nazirov is a Tajik politician who has served as the Prime Minister of Tajikistan since 23 November 2013. He is a member of the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan.
Andrei Vladimirovich Kobyakov is a Belarusian politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Belarus between 2014 and 2018, appointed by president Alexander Lukashenko on 27 December 2014. Before this appointment, Kobyakov served as Lukashenko's Chief of Staff from 2012 to 2014.
The University of Central Asia was established in 2000. UCA's first undergraduate campus opened in 2016 in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan, and was followed by a second campus in Khorog, Tajikistan (2017). The school is an internationally chartered not-for-profit secular institution. It was formed as a partnership between the governments of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan under the sponsorship of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). It has or plans residential campuses in all three sponsoring countries.
Prince Aly Muhammad Aga Khan is the fourth child of Aga Khan IV, born to his second wife Gabriele Renate Homey. His grandmother was Joan Yarde-Buller, daughter of the 3rd Baron Churston.
Yodgor Doyorovich Fayzov is the governor of Tajikistan's southeastern Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAR). Prior to that he was head of the Aga Khan Foundation office in Tajikistan. Fayzov replaced Shodikhon Jamshed as governor on 1 October 2018, by executive order of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon following civil unrest in the region.
