Captain R. Tamil Selvan is a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party. He is elected to Maharashtra Legislative Assembly both in 2014 and 2019 from Sion-Koliwada constituency. He served as a corporator in Mumbai Municipal Corporation. During the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008,Selvan,then a railway parcel contractor at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus,along with his team,saved approximately 36 lives when Ajmal Kasab and his associate began firing. Bal Keshav Thackeray,also known as Balasaheb Thackeray,was an Indian cartoonist and politician who founded the Shiv Sena,a right-wing pro-Marathi and Hindu nationalist party active mainly in the state of Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena is a Regionalist Indian political party based in the state of Maharashtra and operates on the ideology of Hindutva and Marathi Manus. The 2008 Mumbai attacks were a series of coordinated terrorist attacks that took place in November 2008,when 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba,carried out 12 shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai. The attacks,which drew widespread global condemnation,began on Wednesday 26 November and lasted until Saturday 29 November 2008. A total of 175 people died,including nine of the attackers,with more than 300 injured.

Ponniyin Selvan is a Tamil language historical fiction novel by Indian author Kalki Krishnamurthy. It was first serialised in the weekly editions of Kalki,a Tamil magazine,from 29 October 1950 to 16 May 1954 and later integrated into five volumes in 1955. In about 2,210 pages,it tells the story of early days of Chola prince Arulmozhivarman. Kalki visited Sri Lanka three times to gather information and for inspiration.

Ponniyin Selvan:I is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language epic action drama film directed by Mani Ratnam,who co-wrote it with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. Produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions,it is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel,Ponniyin Selvan. The film stars an ensemble cast including Vikram,Karthi,Jayam Ravi,Aishwarya Rai Bachchan,Trisha,Jayaram,Aishwarya Lekshmi,Sobhita Dhulipala,Prakash Raj,Prabhu,R. Sarathkumar,R. Parthiban,Rahman,Lal and Vikram Prabhu. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman,with cinematography by Ravi Varman,editing by A. Sreekar Prasad,and production design by Thota Tharani. Ponniyin Selvan:I dramatises the early life of Chola prince Arunmozhi Varman,who would become the renowned emperor Rajaraja I (947–1014). In the film,Vandiyathevan sets out to cross the Chola land to deliver a message from the crown prince Aditha Karikalan. Meanwhile,Kundavai attempts to establish political peace as vassals and petty chieftains plot against the throne.
