RAAAF is an experimental studio operating at the crossroads of visual art, architecture, and academic philosophy. The studio is based in Amsterdam and was founded in 2006 by Prix de Rome (Netherlands) laureate Ronald Rietveld [1] and philosopher Erik Rietveld. [2]
RAAAF creates artworks through research with visual artists, architects, academic researchers, and craftsmen. [2] [3] [4] Artworks by RAAAF often relate to practices and policies that are connected with contemporary working and living environments. [5] [6] [7] One example is the art installation Vacant NL that served as the Dutch contribution to the Venice Biennale in 2010. [8] This work emphasized the possible uses of thousands of vacant buildings owned by the Dutch state.
Many projects by RAAAF include large spatial interventions at cultural heritage sites. [7] [9] [10] For example, one intervention was to cut through Bunker 599, a monumental military bunker that was once part of the New Dutch Waterline. [11] This intervention questioned Dutch and UNESCO policies on historical preservation, which the artists deemed too conservative. [12] In 2021 the bunker that was now sliced in half became itself listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. [13] Another example is the spatial intervention that in 2018 transformed a Delta Works test facility into the artwork Deltawerk //. [12] [14] This work has been received both as a tribute to the Dutch struggle against the water and as questioning the viability of creating an indestructible Netherlands. [15]
Gerrit Rietveld was a Dutch furniture designer and architect.

The municipality of Utrecht is located in the eastern part of the Randstad conurbation, in the very centre of mainland Netherlands, and includes Haarzuilens, Vleuten en De Meern. Robertus Henricus "Robbert" Dijkgraaf FRSE is a Dutch theoretical physicist, mathematician and string theorist, and the current Minister of Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands. From July 2012 until his inauguration as minister in January 2022, he had been the director and Leon Levy professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, and a tenured professor at the University of Amsterdam.
Willem Hendrik"Wim" Crouwel was a Dutch graphic designer, type designer, and typographer.
The Dutch Waterline was a series of water-based defences conceived by Maurice of Nassau in the early 17th century, and realised by his half brother Frederick Henry. Combined with natural bodies of water, the Waterline could be used to transform Holland, the westernmost region of the Netherlands and adjacent to the North Sea, almost into an island. In the 19th century, the Line was extended to include Utrecht.
Carlos Amorales is a multidisciplinary artist who studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. The most extensive researches in his work encompass Los Amorales (1996-2001), Liquid Archive (1999-2010), Nuevos Ricos (2004-2009), and a typographic exploration in junction with cinema (2013–present).
Antonio Jose Guzman is a Dutch Panamanian visual artist, communication designer and lecturer. He lives and works in Amsterdam, Panama City and Dakar.

Jon Rafman is a Canadian artist, filmmaker, and essayist. His work centers around the emotional, social and existential impact of technology on contemporary life. Joris Hendricus Laarman is a Dutch designer, artist, furniture maker, and entrepreneur best known for his experimental designs inspired by emerging technologies. Laarman's projects are a blend of technology, art and design, with a focus on the potential of 3D printing. Major projects include 3D-printed stainless-steel bridge in Amsterdam, which showcases the potential for creating adaptive, lightweight, and uniquely designed structures using 3D printing. Laarman has also explored furniture design, including the 'Bone' series which used 3D-optimization software to achieve optimal construction. The designer's work often evokes a futuristic feel while nodding to historical art movements, exemplified by pieces like his "Digital Matter" series. When Laarman speaks about his work he discussed the implications and responsibilities that come with breakthrough technologies.

Wietske van Leeuwen is a Dutch ceramist, who lives and works in Monnickendam. Her works are constructed in a baroque style, with shells and fruit as recurring motifs.
Bernardus Stefanus Henricus (Ben) Zegers is a Dutch visual artist, active as a sculptor and installation artist, and teacher and coordinator at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy.
The Sandberg Institute is a postgraduate institution in Amsterdam that offers the master's programme of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. It is named after Willem Sandberg. Since 1995, the Sandberg Institute has been offering a number of master's programmes in art and design. The director of the Sandberg Institute since 2010 is Jurgen Bey.
Dr. Corina L. Apostol is an art curator, educator and writer from Constanța, Romania. She currently serves as an assistant professor of social practice in contemporary art and culture at the University of Amsterdam. Between 2019 and 2023 she was a curator at the Tallinn Art Hall. In 2022 she was appointed the curator of the Estonian pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale held in the Dutch pavilion. Her work has been recognised with nominations for the 2015 Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco Prize, the 2016 Kandinsky Prize, the 2020 Sergey Kuryokhin Award and the 2022 Igor Zabel Award.
Claudi Bockting is a Dutch clinical psychologist and Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Amsterdams Faculty of Medicine, Amsterdam University Medical Centers. Her research program focuses on identifying etiological factors of common mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders and substance abuse, and developing evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions.
Joyeeta Gupta is a Dutch environmental scientist who is professor of Environment and Development in the Global South at the University of Amsterdam, professor of Law and Policy in Water Resources and Environment at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, and co-chair of the Earth Commission, set up by Future Earth and supported by the Global Challenges Foundation. She was co-chair of UNEP’s Global Environment Outlook-6 (2016-2019), published by Cambridge University Press, which was presented to governments participating in the United Nations Environment Assembly in 2019. She is a member of the Amsterdam Global Change Institute. She was awarded the Association of American Publishers PROSE award for Environmental Science and the 2023 Spinoza Prize.
