R Lalzirliana is a Mizo National Front politician from Mizoram. He is the current minister for power and electricity, [1] art and culture, land resources, soil and water conservation and district council affairs departments of Mizoram. [2]

Career

He was involved in the Young Mizo Association from 1983-1985 before he entered politics. He started contesting MLA elections under Congress party in 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013 and also served as Vice President of Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee. [3] He was Home Minister [4] under the Congress Government under Lalthanhawla from 2008 until he switched sides and moved on to the Mizo National Front government led by Zoramthanga in 2018. [5] He contested the 2018 elections under MNF ticket in Tawi constituency. [6]

Personal life

He married T. Lalthangmawii, and they have two sons and two daughters. [7]

Mizoram is a state in Northeast India, with Aizawl as its seat of government and capital city. The Mizo National Front is a regional political party in Mizoram, India. MNF emerged from the Mizo National Famine Front, which was formed by Pu Laldenga to protest against the inaction of the Indian central government towards the famine situation in the Mizo areas of the Assam state in 1959. It staged a major uprising in 1966, followed by years of underground activities. In 1986, it signed the Mizoram Accord with the Government of India, renouncing secession and violence. The MNF then began contesting elections and has formed state government in Mizoram three times. It is currently the state's ruling party, with its president, Zoramthanga, as the Chief Minister of Mizoram.

Laldenga was a Mizo nationalist and politician from Mizoram in northeast India. He was the founder of the Mizo National Front, a social organisation turned political party. He was the first Chief Minister of Mizoram, the office of which he held from 1986 to 1988.

Lalduhoma is an Indian politician and a former Indian Police Service officer from Mizoram. Resigning from the security service to the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, he was elected as Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Mizoram in 1984. He left the Indian National Congress, the party from which he was elected, for which he was disqualified from the parliament. He became the first MP to be discharged upon anti-defection law in India.

Lal Thanhawla is an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of Mizoram, belonging to the Indian National Congress party. He holds the record for longest-serving Chief Minister of Mizoram, occupying the position for five terms: 1984 to 1986, 1989 to 1993, 1993 to 1998, 2008 to 2013, and 2013 to 2018. He served as President of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee from 1973 to 2021. Vanglaini is a daily newspaper in Mizoram, northeast India, published in the Mizo language. It is registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India. It is owned, edited, and published by K. Sapdanga. It remains the newspaper in Mizoram with the largest circulation.

C. L. Ruala is an Indian politician from Mizoram and member of the Indian National Congress. He was a Member of Parliament of the 16th Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament. He was elected from the only one-seat Mizoram constituency. He won over Robert Romawia, IND candidate, and M. Lalmanzuala, Aam Aadmi Party candidate, by getting a total vote 210,485 (48.7%). He was also elected member in the previous term during 2009-2014.

The Mizoram Legislative Assembly election, 2013 was held on 25 November 2013 in all 40 constituencies of the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram. Results were declared on 9 December. The main contest was between incumbent the Indian National Congress and the Mizo National Front led Mizoram Democratic Alliance. Incumbent Chief Minister Pu Lalthanhawla and his party Indian National Congress won a majority and continued in government.

Zoramthanga is an Indian politician who is the Chief Minister of Mizoram. He is the president of Mizo National Front (MNF) party. He had served as the Chief Minister of Mizoram from December 1998 to December 2008, for two consecutive terms. He was second-in-command to Laldenga during the secession movement of Mizo National Front, and became the successor as the party leader, after MNF was a recognised political party, following the death of Laldenga in 1990.

The North-East Democratic Alliance or NEDA is a political coalition that was formed on May 24, 2016, by Bharatiya Janata Party. <span class="mw-page-title-main">2018 Mizoram Legislative Assembly election</span> State assembly election in India

The legislative assembly election was held on 28 November 2018 to elect members of the 40 constituencies in Mizoram. Mizo National Front won 26 seats in the election. This was the first time that Congress does not have any government in any of the states in Northeast India.

The Mizoram Peace Accord, 1986 was an official agreement between the Government of India and the Mizo National Front (MNF) to end insurgency and violence in Mizoram, India, that started in 1966. The Mizo National Front was an organisation of Mizo secessionists led by Laldenga to fight for independence from India. The movement was basically due to lack of support from the government during the great famine in Mizoram in the late 1950s. Political insurgency and social unrest ensued in the next decades. After a number of negotiations, the document titled Mizoram Accord, 1986: Memorandum of Settlement was finally signed on 30 June 1986. It was signed by Laldenga for MNF, R.D. Pradhan, Home Secretary, Government of India, and Lalkhama, Chief Secretary, Government of Mizoram. It is remarked as the most and only successful peace agreement in India after its independence from British Empire in 1947.

The Zoram People's Movement is an alliance of seven party to form non Indian National Congress non Mizo National Front government formed by Mizoram People's Conference. It is an alliance movement, the members are Mizoram People's Conference Zoram Nationalist Party, Zoram Exodus Movement, Zoram Decentralisation Front, Zoram Reformation Front and Mizoram People's Party. Later all these parties merged into a single entity. In 2018 Mizoram Legislative Assembly election, it has emerged as movement group and support some independent candidate with same symbol, flag and policy and won 8 seats. Zoram People's Movement was reformed as a political party from movement group.

Lalnghinglova Hmar is a journalist and sports promoter in Mizoram, India. He works as the joint editor of Vanglaini, a leading daily newspaper in Mizo language. He is also currently the honorary secretary of Mizoram Football Association and Executive Committee member of the All India Football Federation. Through his journalism and sports activities, he has been credited with the revolution of football in Mizoram. He helped to establish the Mizoram Premier League, for which he is recognised as the father of Mizo football.

Lalchamliana is a Mizo National Front politician from Mizoram. He is the current home minister of Mizoram.

Tawnluia is an Indian politician from Mizo National Front. He is the first and current Deputy Chief Minister of Mizoram.
