Rabindra Kishen Hazari (1932 - 1986) commonly known as R. K. Hazari was an Indian career banker and economist who served as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1969 to 1977.
He was born on October 21,1932,in Patiala. [1] [2]
He was the son of Autar Kishan and Chandermohini Vidya Hazari. [3]
He received MA and PhD degrees in economics. [6]
He was educated at Government College,Lahore,St. Xavier's College,Bombay and School of Economics and Sociology,Bombay University. [7]
He was a professor of economics at St. Xavier's College,Bombay (1951–1964). [8]
He was appointed Professor of Industrial Economics at the University of Bombay in 1964. [9]
In 1967,he was appointed as the editor of the Economic and Political Weekly (EPW),Bombay. [10]
In 1969,he was appointed as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He is notable for being both the youngest and the longest serving Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India in the history of India. [11] [12] He served as deputy governor of RBI from 27.11.1969 to 26.11.1977. [13]

The Reserve Bank of India,abbreviated as RBI,is India's central bank and regulatory body responsible for regulation of the Indian banking system. Owned by the Ministry of Finance,Government of India,it is responsible for the control,issue and maintaining supply of the Indian rupee. It also manages the country's main payment systems and works to promote its economic development. Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran (BRBNM) is a specialised division of RBI through which it prints and mints Indian currency notes (INR) in two of its currency printing presses located in Mysore and Salboni.
