Rada Manufacturing is a manufacturer located in Waverly, Iowa. [2] It is the maker of Rada Cutlery. The company has been manufacturing American-made cutlery since being founded in 1948 and manufactures their products 100% in the USA. [5] They are known for the solid aluminum handles on their cutlery, [6] their lifetime guarantee, and for their aid to fundraisers for over 70 years. [3]

History

Rada Cutlery was first produced in 1948, using surplus military knife blades then available at a fraction of their value. Early on, Rada utilized various buildings to meet their needs. One was a fortified military radar base used to monitor air space during the Cold War. In 1986, manufacturing operations moved to the current facility, which has since been expanded.

The company is known for its wide range of high quality sharpening steels and is also renowned for its chef's knives where it is a respected manufacturer in the professional sector, but less established for the casual user. The Western Knife Company was an American manufacturer of hunting knives which began operations in Boulder, Colorado in 1911. The company is probably best known for its "Bowie" style hunting knives. The company was purchased by Coleman in 1984. Camillus Cutlery Company purchased Western in 1992. In February, 2007, Camillus closed as a result of bankruptcy due to competition from companies making cheaper knives in other countries. The Western brand and Camillus brand are now owned by the Acme United Corporation and manufactured in Asia.
