Radio Tamworth is a community radio station, broadcasting to Tamworth, Staffordshire. The station is based at Tamworth Youth Centre, and is run entirely by volunteers.
The station can be heard on 106.8 FM in Tamworth, and online through its website.
TCR fm was set up in 2005 and first broadcast in the summer of that year on a 28-day Restricted Service Licence (RSL) on the frequency of 106.9 FM from Saturday 30 July until Friday 26 August. The group then went on to host another RSL in the summer of 2007. [1]
After completing the RSL in 2007, the directors at the time, Daniel Hoult and Martin Summers, went on to apply for a 5-year Community Radio Licence which they were awarded by OFCOM in May 2008. [2] TCR fm started broadcasting on this licence on 31 October 2009, with a start time of 5pm, on a new frequency of 106.8 FM. [3]
In December 2010, Ofcom found TCR fm in breach of its licence commitment to produce 12 hours of live programming per day. The station struggled to fulfil the hours due to volunteer availability with live hours varying with an uneven spread. [4] In April 2011, with the agreement of Ofcom, the station was granted a change to the licence commitment to reflect the nature of the service, and the availability of volunteers.
TCR fm announced on 19 October 2017 that it was going to close on Sunday 22 October, due to a lack of available funding and number of voluntary presenters. [5] However, it was announced a couple of days later on October 23, 2017 that the station had avoided closure and "A brand new sound is coming to 106.8 FM with a fresh team bringing an exciting sound for community radio in Tamworth". [6] Radio Tamworth launched on 1 December 2017.
Chorley FM was a radio station based in Chorley, Lancashire, England. The station was created by volunteers back in 2001 to broadcast a special two week licence in conjunction with the Midsummer Festival which was located on Botany Bay near the M61.

Starting broadcasts on 103.1 MHz FM in September 2007, it aims to provide dedicated programming to the Asian Muslim population that live in Pendle, east Lancashire, during times of Muslim holy festivals. As common with many of the UK's new community radio stations, it will also have a wider remit to promote wider "social gain", for all local communities, through on-air access via voluntary opportunities. The station also aims to help with community cohesion and integration, economic regeneration and development and political wellbeing.
The Superstation Orkney, also known as just The Superstation, was a community radio station, broadcasting to Orkney and Caithness. Until its closure in November 2014, the station was Orkney's only independent radio station, and broadcast 'a broad range of popular and contemporary music'. GLOSS FM was an online community radio station in the United Kingdom, broadcasting to Thornbury and District, South Gloucestershire. Its strapline is "Your Local Station". It originally started broadcasting to the South Gloucestershire area on 19 April 2010. It was an extension of Thornbury FM, a smaller station broadcasting to just Thornbury which had started on 19 November 2005. In November 2009, the station relocated its transmitter which increased its coverage area. After an open competition GLOSS FM was chosen as the station's new name in order to be more relevant to all listeners. GLOSS FM legally broadcast under the terms of Ofcom's Restricted Service Licence regime until the spring of 2011. This restricted the station to a maximum of two 28-day broadcasts per year in addition to its webcasts which were broadcast continually. In this year the station closed after an unsuccessful licence bid for a permanent FM frequency which was rejected by Ofcom due to "no suitable FM frequency available" in the area - an assertion which they have since indicated is not correct. After a 6 year break and several attempts to restart it, the station re-launched on 29 July 2017. The station rebranded to Thornbury Radio in November 2021.
