Ragnar Kvam Jr. (born 23 September 1942) is a Norwegian journalist, globetrotter, biographer and non-fiction writer. He was born in Kvinesdal and is a son of Ragnar Kvam. From 1974 to 1987 he was a journalist for the newspaper Dagbladet . He then initiated a period of sailing around the world, which eventually resulted in three books, Oppbrudd from 1990, Havet har meg nå from 1992, and En sjøreise til Sibir from 1996. He has written biographies of Hjalmar Johansen and other polar explorers, and his three-volume biography of Thor Heyerdahl earned him the Riksmålsforbundet's literary prize. [1] He has also written a biography on painter and counterfeiter Knud Bull, who was deported from Great Britain to Australia in 1846. [2]

Fredrik Hjalmar Johansen was a Norwegian polar explorer. He participated on the first and third Fram expeditions. He shipped out with the Fridtjof Nansen expedition in 1893–1896, and accompanied Nansen to notch a new Farthest North record near the North Pole. Knud Bull

Knud Geelmuyden Bull was a Norwegian painter and counterfeiter. He studied as a painter, was convicted for printing false bank notes, and was deported from the United Kingdom to Australia during 1846. He lived in Australia the remainder of his life, becoming a significant artistic painter there.

Ragnar Kvam was a Norwegian journalist, novelist, translator and literary critic. He was born in Tønsberg and grew up in Drammen. After the Second World War he was journalist in the newspaper Fremtiden, and the Norwegian News Agency. He made his literary debut in 1950 with the novel Alle vil hjem. Among his other novels are De herjede menn from 1953, Den store stillheten from 1964, and Krystallnatten from 1970. He translated many books into Norwegian language, including works by George Orwell, Virginia Woolf, Graham Greene, Oscar Wilde, C. P. Snow and Erich Maria Remarque.
