Rahmatullah Mir Qasmi (born 22 July 1957) is a Kashmiri Islamic scholar,founder and rector of Darul Uloom Raheemiyyah,one of the largest Islamic seminaries in Kashmir. [1] [2] He is a senior member of the managing committee of Darul Uloom Deoband,founding member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and a member of the working body of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind.
Rahmatullah Mir Qasmi was born on 22 July 1957. [3] He graduated from the Darul Uloom Deoband in 1978. [3] He is an authorized disciple of Mahmood Hasan Gangohi in Tasawwuf. [4] [5] He established Darul Uloom Raheemiyyah,one of the largest Islamic madrasa in Bandipore,Kashmir in 1979. [6] The seminary follows the methodology of Darul Uloom Deoband. [7] He is a founding member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and a senior member of the managing committee of Darul Uloom Deoband. He is also a member of the working committee of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind. [8] [9] [10]
In 2018,disagreeing with the J&K State Board of Madrasa Education Act,Qasmi said that,"We know how government interference deteriorated those religious institutions which are affiliated with Waqf." [11] He also said that giving authorization to the boards to take control of accounts in these Madrasas will lead to malpractice in utilization of funds donated by people towards these institutions. The Deobandi movement or Deobandism is a revivalist movement within Sunni Islam that adheres to the Hanafi school of law. It formed in the late 19th century around the Darul Uloom Madrassa in Deoband,India,from which the name derives,by Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi,Rashid Ahmad Gangohi,and several others,after the Indian Rebellion of 1857–58. They consider themselves the continuation of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaat.The main purpose of this movement was to reject the grave worshipping,shirk and protect the orthodoxy of Islam from Bidah,as well as the influence of non-Muslim cultures on the Muslim of South Asia. The movement pioneered education in religious sciences through the Dars-i-Nizami associated with the Lucknow-based ulema of Firangi Mahal with the goal of preserving traditional Islamic teachings from the influx of modernist,secular ideas during British colonial rule. The Deobandi movement's Indian clerical wing,Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind,was founded in 1919 and played a major role in the Indian independence movement through its participation in the Pan-Islamist Khalifat movement and propagation of the doctrine of composite nationalism. The movement shares several similarities with Wahhabism.
Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi was an Indian Sunni Hanafi Maturidi Islamic Scholar,theologian and a Sufi who was one of the main founders of the Deobandi Movement,starting from the Darul Uloom Deoband.
Anwar Shah Kashmiri was a Kashmiri Muslim scholar and jurist who served as the first principal of Madrasa Aminia and the fourth principal of the Darul Uloom Deoband. He was a student of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi and participated in the Indian freedom struggle through the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind.
