The 1980 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXII Olympiad and commonly known as Moscow 1980, were an international multi-sport event held from 19 July to 3 August 1980 in Moscow, Soviet Union, in present-day Russia. The Games were the first to be staged in an Eastern Bloc country, as well as the first Olympic Games and only Summer Olympics to be held in a Slavic language-speaking country. They were also the only Summer Olympic Games to be held in a communist country until the 2008 Summer Olympics held in China. These were the final Olympic Games under the IOC Presidency of Michael Morris, 3rd Baron Killanin.
Rainer Henkel is a former freestyle swimmer from Germany, who won the bronze medal in the 4×200 m freestyle relay for West Germany at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.
Robert Steven Genter is an American former competition swimmer and three-time Olympic medalist. He was freestyle specialist who earned a gold medal as a member of the winning U.S. team in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. He also won silver medals in the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle events.

Per-Olof Östrand was a Swedish freestyle swimmer. He competed at the 1948, 1952 and 1956 Olympics in six 200–1500 m freestyle events in total, and won a bronze medal in the 400 m freestyle in 1952. His 4 × 200 m relay teams finished in fourth place in 1948 and 1952; they won gold medals at the European championships in 1947 and 1954.
The men's 100 metre freestyle event at the 1984 Summer Olympics was held in the McDonald's Olympic Swim Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on July 31, 1984. There were 68 competitors from 45 nations. Nations were limited to two swimmers each, down from three in prior Games. The event was won by Rowdy Gaines of the United States, the nation's third victory in four Games—with only the boycotted 1980 Olympics missing. Overall, it was the 11th victory for an American in the men's 100 metre freestyle, most of any nation. Mark Stockwell of Australia took silver. Swedish swimmer Per Johansson repeated as bronze medalist, only the seventh man to earn multiple medals in the event.
Rafael Escalas Bestard is a former competitive swimmer from Spain. Escalas competed on the 1980 and 1984 Spanish Olympic teams, and swam competitively in the United States for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Helmut Bantz was a German gymnast and Olympic champion. He won a gold medal in the vault at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, competing for the United Team of Germany.
Jerome Alan Heidenreich was an American competition swimmer, Olympic champion, and former world record-holder. He competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, where he received gold medals in the 4×100-meter medley relay, and 4×100-meter freestyle relay. He received a silver medal in 100-meter freestyle, and a bronze medal in 100-meter butterfly.
Frederick Dove was an English competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain at the Olympics and European championships, and England in the British Empire Games, during the 1930s. Dove competed in freestyle swimming events. Dove was born in Royal Tunbridge Wells. He was a member of Monson Swimming club and Otter swimming club.
Jill Ann Sterkel is an American former competition swimmer, Olympic champion, former world record-holder, and water polo player. Sterkel won four medals in three Olympic Games spanning twelve years. She was the women's head coach of the Texas Longhorns swimming and diving team at the University of Texas at Austin from 1992 to 2007.

Hans-Joachim Fassnacht is a retired German swimmer. He competed at the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics in various freestyle and butterfly events and won a silver medal in the 4 × 200 m freestyle in 1972. In 1972 he also won a 1500 m freestyle semifinal, setting an Olympic record, but withdrew from the final.
Folkert Meeuw is a German former swimmer who competed at the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics, and won a silver medal in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay in 1972. Next year he won a bronze in the same event at the 1973 World Aquatics Championships. In 1970 and 1974 he won six European medals in various events, including three gold medals.
Frank Pfütze was a German freestyle swimmer who competed at the 1976 and 1980 Summer Olympics in five events. He won a silver medal in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay in 1980 and finished fifth in the same event in 1976. In individual events he was eliminated in the preliminaries
Udo Poser is a German former swimmer. He competed at the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics and won a bronze medal in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay in 1972 by swimming for the East Germany team in the preliminary round. He finished in fifth and sixth place in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay in 1968 and in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay in 1972, respectively, whereas individually he failed to reach the finals in the 200 m and 400 m freestyle.
Serhiy Oleksandrovych Krasyuk was a Ukrainian swimmer. He won a gold and silver medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics in the 4 × 100 m medley and 4 × 200 m freestyle relays, respectively; in both events he swam for the Soviet Unions team in the preliminary rounds. Individually he finished in sixth place in the 100 m freestyle. After the Olympics he won several medals at the world and European championships. He missed the 1984 Summer Olympics due to their boycott by the Soviet Union and competed in the Friendship Games instead, winning a gold, silver and bronze medal.
Dimitri Colupaev is a Moldovan-born German swimmer. He competed in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay event at the 2012 Summer Olympics and finished fourth. At the 2012 European Aquatics Championships, Colupaev and his German teammates won the gold in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay.
Birgit Klomp is a retired German freestyle swimmer who won a bronze medal at the 1954 European Aquatics Championships. She competed at the 1956 Summer Olympics in the 100 m and 4×100 m freestyle events and finished fourth in the relay. She won three national titles in the 100 m and 400 m freestyle (1955).
Heinz Arendt was a German swimmer who a bronze medal in the 1500 m freestyle the 1938 European Aquatics Championships. He finished seventh in the same event at the 1936 Summer Olympics.
