Terri Lynn Clark is a Canadian country music artist who has had success in both Canada and the United States. Signed to Mercury Records in 1995, she released her self-titled debut that year. Both it and its two follow-ups, 1996's Just the Same and 1998's How I Feel, were certified platinum in both countries, and produced several Top Ten country hits.

It was released to Canadian country radio through 604 Records on March 28, 2018 and was released to digital retailers on March 30, 2018. "One Drink Ago" was intended as the lead single for Clark's forthcoming eleventh studio album, but was left off the track listing when Raising the Bar was released. The song has become Smith's record-extending eighteenth consecutive top ten country hit.

It was written by Lavigne and Travis Clark of We The Kings alongside its producer Stephan Moccio. It was released as the lead single from the album on September 19, 2018, by BMG Rights Management.
