Shashi Kapoor was an Indian actor and film producer who is best known for his works in Hindi films. A recipient of several accolades, including four National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards, he also featured in a number of English-language international films, particularly films produced by Merchant Ivory. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2011, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, in 2014, for his contribution to Indian cinema.

The Kapoor family is a prominent Indian show business family with at least 4 generations of the family over 95 years being active in the Hindi film industry. Numerous members of the family, both (biological) and those who have married into the family, have had prolific careers as actors, film directors and producers. Pyar Ka Mausam is a 1969 Indian Hindi-language musical romance film under Nasir Hussain films banner. Its plot has much similarity to Hussain's own earlier film "Tumsa Nahi Dekha," with Ameeta and Shammi Kapoor in the lead roles. It starred Shashi Kapoor, and the Nasir Husain fixture- Asha Parekh. It also had Bharat Bhushan, Nirupa Roy, Madan Puri, Tahir Hussain and another Nasir Husain fixture Rajendranath. Nasir's nephew Faisal Khan who was 3 years old at the time plays Shashi Kapoor's character as a child. Two more Husain fixtures were responsible for the memorable songs: lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri and music composer R.D. Burman. R.D.Burman also had an acting role in the film. The film became a Silver Jubilee Hit.

Jab Jab Phool Khile is a 1965 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film, starring Shashi Kapoor and Nanda. The story is of a poor boy who is a boatman in Kashmir and falls in love with a rich tourist. The film became a "blockbuster" at the box office, and was No. 2 in top ten grossing films at Box Office India of 1965. The songs by the music composing duo Kalyanji Anandji, assisted by then little-known Laxmikant Pyarelal are highlights of the film. The film was screened in Algeria's cinema halls every two days for a couple of years; there had been public demand for it. Shashi Kapoor was one of the most successful Indian actors in North African countries such as Algeria, Morocco, and Libya. In the souks of Marrakesh, even today, some older shopkeepers will give you a discount if you are from the land of Shashi Kapoor.
