Santha Kumari (born 28 August 1965), [1] widely known by her stage name Disco Shanti, is an Indian actress and dancer known for her performances in item numbers, particularly in South Indian cinema. She has appeared in over 900 films in multiple languages, including Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Odia.

Personal life

Disco Shanti is the daughter of Tamil actor C. L. Anandan, known for his roles in films such as Vijayapuri Veeran (1960) and Kaattumallika (1966). She has a younger sister, Lalitha Kumari, who is also an actress. [2]

In 1996, she married Telugu actor Srihari and subsequently retired from the film industry. [3] The couple had two sons and a daughter. Their daughter, Akshara, died at the age of four months. In her memory, the family established the Akshara Foundation, which states that it focuses on quality education for every child, accelerating conventional learning through accessible technology-based innovations for teachers and children. [4] Additionally, they adopted four villages in Medchal district. [5]

Srihari, who had been battling a liver ailment, died during the filming of R... Rajkumar (2013). He experienced dizziness on set and was rushed to a hospital, where he later died. [6]

Shanti Nilayam is a 1969 Indian Tamil-language musical drama film, directed by G. S. Mani in his debut. The film stars Gemini Ganesan and Kanchana, with Nagesh, Vijaya Lalitha, Pandari Bai, K. Balaji and V. S. Raghavan in supporting roles. It is based on the 1965 American film The Sound of Music and the 1847 novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Lalitha Kumari is an Indian actress who worked in Tamil films. She is the daughter of Tamil actor C. L. Anandan and the younger sister of actress Disco Shanti.

Anandan, born as C. L. Anandan, was an Indian actor and producer who was active in Tamil cinema as well in Malayalam cinema during the second half of the 20th century. He was well known for his hero, supporting, and villain roles. In a career spanning close to three decades, he acted in about 60 films in Tamil and Malayalam, in which 25 films had him as hero. Anandan debuted in a supporting role in the Tamil movie Thandhai, and later he holds the heroic role in Vijayapuri Veeran. He made a move on the Malayalam film industry; Kaattumaina was his first Malayalam movie, which was also re-shot in Tamil. He appeared in a song sequence "Us Paar Saajan" as a fisherman dancer from the Hindi film Chori Chori (1956).
