Siva is a 1989 Tamil-language action film directed by Ameerjan. The film stars Rajinikanth, Raghuvaran, Sowcar Janaki and Shobana. It is a remake of the 1977 Hindi film Khoon Pasina . [1] The film was released on 5 May 1989 and became a box-office bomb.
The film begins with Siva (Rajinikanth) and John (Raghuvaran) as kids, they are close friends like their fathers, in spite of their religious differences, one being Hindu and other Christian. A villain kills their families except for Siva, John, and John's mother, but John does not know that Siva and his mother were alive and vice versa. 20 years later, Siva falls in love with Parvathy (Shobana) and marries her. John is a hired goon who will do only good deeds. John is hired by the same villain to kill Siva and during the fight both get injured and finally they come to know that they are childhood friends. Eventually, both of them unite and fight the bad guy who killed their family.
The music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. [2] [3] The song "Iruvizhiyin" is set in Hamsadhvani raga. [4]

Siva was released on 5 May 1989, [5] and became a box-office bomb. [6] P. S. S. of Kalki gave the film a negative review citing how would it be if a film was made in a frenzy to show off Rajini style in a fight? just like Shiva. [7] The film was dubbed in Telugu as Tiger Siva, released on 19 January 1990. [8]

Mappillai (transl. Son-in-law) is a 1989 Indian Tamil-language masala film directed by Rajasekhar, starring Rajinikanth, Srividya and Amala. It is a remake of the 1989 Telugu film Attaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu, the Tamil version was produced by Geetha Arts, and Chiranjeevi who played the lead role in the original Telugu version made a special appearance in this film. The film received a positive response from the public and ran for 200+ days and became a blockbuster. The film was again remade in Tamil with the same title, 22 years later.
Paayum Puli is a 1983 Tamil-language martial arts film directed by S. P. Muthuraman and written by Panchu Arunachalam. Produced by AVM Productions, the film stars Rajinikanth and Radha. Inspired by The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978), it revolves around a meek man who learns martial arts to seek revenge for the murder of his sister. Paayum Puli was released on 14 January 1983, Pongal day. The film became a commercial success and completed a 133-day run at the box office.

The film, which was based on a stage play of same name, was remade in Kannada as Eradu Rekhegalu, in Telugu as Collector Janaki and in Hindi as Sanjog.
Vaathiyaar Veettu Pillai is a 1989 Indian Tamil-language film, directed by P. Vasu. It stars Sathyaraj and Shobana. This was Sathyaraj's 100th film as an actor. Vaathiyaar Veettu Pillai was released on 28 October 1989, alongside another Sathyaraj film Dravidan. It was commercially unsuccessful. The film was a remake of Kannada film Nammoora Raja for which Vasu written the story.
