Penmani Aval Kanmani is a 1988 Indian Tamil-language comedy drama film written and directed by Visu, and produced by Kavithalayaa Productions. [1] The film stars Pratap Pothen, Seetha, Visu and Kishmu. It was released on 11 March 1988. [2] The film was remade in Telugu as Aadade Aadharam. [3] [4]

Plot

The movie deals with how Radio Mama (Visu) solves the family related problems in the other neighbouring households. Four families are principally involved in this movie. Visu's family consists of his son Prathap Pothen, daughter-in-law Kutti Padmini and their two kids. Visu always causes trouble at home by ignoring household chores and instead focussing on neighbouring household's problems. Ilavarasan's family consists of his wife Aruna and parents Delhi Ganesh and Kamala Kamesh. Aruna ill-treats her in-laws. Dilip's family consists of his wife Seetha and mother M.N.Rajam. Seetha is tortured by her mother-in-law. Kishmu's family consists of his wife Vadivukkarasi, son Ramesh Arvind and daughter-in-law Madhuri. Kishmu and his son are drunkards and do not earn anything for their family.

How Radio Mama solves the different problems of Dowry, Ill treatment of mother and father-in-laws by daughter-in-law, Ill treatment of daughter-in-laws by mother-in-law, Alcoholism in slums, etc with his wit, courage and humour forms the story of the movie.

Reception

The Indian Express wrote that Visu achieved what he sought in an "engaging manner", and also appreciated the song "Moongililai Kaadugale". [7] Jayamanmadhan of Kalki praised the acting of star cast and humour and concluded after entering the theatre one can laugh and definitely leave after enjoying the film. [8]

Meenakshisundaram Ramasamy Viswanathan, best known by his stage name Visu, was an Indian writer, director, stage, film and television actor and talk-show host. Visu initially worked as an assistant to director K. Balachander until becoming a director himself. He later began acting, with his first film being Kudumbam Oru Kadambam (1981), directed by S. P. Muthuraman.

It was remade in Kannada as Savira Sullu, in Telugu as Pelli Chesi Chupistham and in Malayalam as Thiruthalvaadi. A sequel, Manal Kayiru 2, was released in 2016 with Shekar, Visu, and Ranga reprising their roles.

Vadivukkarasi is an Indian actress. She made her acting debut in the Tamil film Sigappu Rojakkal (1978) and has acted in more than 350 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam and 40 television serials in Tamil. Film director A. P. Nagarajan is her maternal uncle.
