Kailasam Balachandar was an Indian filmmaker and playwright who worked mainly in the Tamil cinema. He was well known for his distinct film-making style, and the Indian film industry knew him as a master of unconventional themes and hard-hitting contemporary subject matter. Balachander's films are well known for their portrayal of women as bold personalities and central characters. Popularly referred to as Iyakkunar Sigaram, his films are usually centred on unusual or complicated interpersonal relationships and social themes. He started his film career in 1964 as a screenwriter and graduated to a director with Neerkumizhi (1965).

Maro Charitra is a 1978 Indian Telugu-language romantic tragedy film written and directed by K. Balachander. It stars Kamal Haasan and Saritha in the lead with Madhavi appearing in prominent roles. The film deals with cross-cultural romance between a Tamil man and a young Telugu woman. Upon release, it was commercially successful and remains a cult classic. Owing to its success in Andhra Pradesh, the film was released in the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka without being dubbed into the respective languages. It held the record of being the longest-running Telugu film at theatres in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Across theatres it had an uninterrupted theatrical run of two and half years in Bangalore. The song Ye Theega Poovuno became popular.

Aravind has appeared in over 140 films including several Tamil-language films. He has won and been nominated for numerous awards. He has won Filmfare Awards for Best Actor and Karnataka State Awards for Best Actor. He received Best Story Award for his script for Hoomale. He has won Udaya TV award and Suvarna TV awards.
Thaneer Thaneer is a 1981 Indian Tamil language political drama film written and directed by K. Balachander, starring Saritha, Shunmugham, A. K. Veeraswami and Radha Ravi. The film, based on the 1980 play of the same name by Komal Swaminathan, was filmed by B. S. Lokanath and featured music by M. S. Viswanathan. It was released during the Diwali day in 1981.

She acted in more than 100 films and won several awards for her performances, including a Filmfare Award.
Ramakrishna, also known as Neernalli Ramakrishna, is an Indian actor who works predominantly in Kannada cinema, and known for his portrayal of character roles as a lead actor. He was born into the Havyaka Brahmin community in Neernalli, near Sirsi, in the erstwhile North Canara region of Karnataka State. In his career spanning over 30 years, he has appeared in over 200 films, mostly Kannada and a handful in Tamil and Telugu cinema; he appeared in a lead role in K. Balachander's Poikkal Kudhirai (1983). A protégé of the renowned filmmaker Puttanna Kanagal, he featured in some of the latter's best works such as Ranganayaki (1981), Maanasa Sarovara and Amrutha Ghalige (1984). Since the 1990s, he has appeared mostly in supporting roles.
Hasyaratna Ramakrishna is a 1982 Indian Kannada language comedy film directed by B. S. Ranga. The film stars Anant Nag in the role of a poet, Ramakrishna. It also features Aarathi, Manjula, Sripriya and Srinath in the pivotal roles. The film was a remake of director's own Telugu film Tenali Ramakrishna (1956) which was based on the story of Tenali Rama.
B. S. Lokanath was an Indian cinematographer who worked in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films. He is well known as the cinematographer of K. Balachander and has worked in 55 films with him. During his career, he won the National Film Award for Best Cinematography for Apoorva Raagangal (1975) and the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Cinematographer for Ninaithale Inikkum (1979). He died of a heart attack in Chennai on 9 December 2011.
Besuge is a 1976 Indian Kannada-language romance film directed by Geethapriya, based on a novel of the same name by Ashwini, and stars Srinath, Manjula and Chandrashekar, in lead roles.
Eradu Rekhegalu is a 1984 Indian Kannada-language drama film, directed by K. Balachander. The film stars Saritha, Srinath and Geetha. Produced by Chandulal Jain, the film is a remake of 1969 Tamil hit Iru Kodugal. The music was composed by M. S. Viswanathan.
Rishi is a 2005 Indian Kannada-language romance film directed and written by Prakash. The film stars Shiva Rajkumar, Vijay Raghavendra, Radhika and Sindhu Tolani in the lead roles along with Srinath and Avinash in other prominent roles.The score and soundtrack was by Gurukiran whose compositions were appreciated by critics and masses. The film ran for a hundred days and eventually went on to become one of the hits of the year 2005. The film was remade in Telugu as Bangaru Babu (2009) with Jagapathi Babu.
S. Shivaram, popularly known simply as Shivaram or Shivaramanna, was an Indian actor, producer and director whose Kannada cinema career has spanned six decades. He has played roles including lead hero performances, character roles, comedic roles, as well as supporting parts. He teamed up with his elder brother, S. Ramanathan and produced several films under the name Rashi Brothers apart from directing Hrudaya Sangama in 1972. They together produced movies directed by Puttanna Kanagal like Gejje Pooje and Upasane. They also produced Dr. Rajkumar 's 175th movie Nanobba Kalla and the Tamil movie Dharma Durai starring Rajinikanth which was a remake of the 1989 Kannada movie Deva. The brothers together produced few Bollywood films as well including the 1985 movie Geraftaar which is known to be the only Indian movie to star three stalwarts - Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth - in a single movie. As an actor, Shivaram has the distinction of working with many stalwart directors out of which his association with Puttanna Kanagal is much remembered. He has acted in all the seven Kannada movies directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao starring Rajkumar.
Thamarai Nenjam is a 1968 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by K. Balachander. The film stars Gemini Ganesan, B. Saroja Devi and Vanisri, with Major Sundarrajan and Nagesh playing supporting roles. It was released on 31 May 1968, and won two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards: Best Film and Best Dialogue Writer (Balachander). The film was remade in Telugu as Mooga Prema (1969), in Hindi as Haar Jeet (1972) and in Kannada as Mugila Mallige (1985) by Balachander himself.
Shraddha Rama Srinath is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu films. She debuted with the Malayalam film Kohinoor and gained wide acclaim for her role in the Kannada psychological thriller U Turn (2016) for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and also for her performances in Jersey, Urvi, Vikram Vedha, Nerkonda Paarvai and Operation Alamelamma. For the latter, she won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – South award. She won the Zee Cine Awards Telugu for Best Find of the Year - Female in 2020 for her role in Jersey.
