Ashok (born 12 September 1951) is an Indian actor in the Kannada film industry, known for drama roles. His notable films include Ranganayaki, [1] Sanadi Appanna, Bayalu Daari, Archana, Chellida Rakta, Thayiya Madilalli, Raja Maharaja and Krantiyogi Basavanna. [2]
Ashok was born to V. Lakshmi Narasimhaiah, a police inspector and Puttamma in Anekal. [3] To become a film star was his childhood ambition. No sooner had he completed his degree, than he applied to NSD, FTTI, Pune and the Madras Film Institute. He was admitted to the Madras Film Institute [4] and even topped the course. [2]
His first Kannada film was Hennu Samsarada Kannu opposite Sridevi . [1] He mainly acted in romantic movies opposite top heroines Aarati and Manjula during the late seventies and early eighties. He also set up a small-scale industry, which is his main source of income. [2] In 1986, he became the founding president of the Karnataka Film Artists, Workers and Technicians Union. He is also an activist in many movements, including the Gokak movement and Raitha Sangha protests. [1]

Kashinatha Hathwara was an Indian actor and filmmaker who primarily worked in Kannada films. He also worked in Bollywood remakes of his films. With a career spanning over three decades, Kashinath acted in or directed over 40 films, usually comedies. He is credited for introducing new talents such as actor Upendra, musician V. Manohar, and director Sunil Kumar Desai, alongside many other technicians who went on to become successful in the Kannada film industry.
Sampath Kumar, known by his stage name Vishnuvardhan, was an Indian actor who worked predominantly in Kannada cinema besides also having sporadically appeared in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam language films. Vishnuvardhan has a prolific career spanning over four decades, during which he has acted in more than 220 films. A popular cultural icon of Karnataka, and holds the status of a matinée idol amongst the Kannada diaspora. He is popularly called as Sahasa Simha, Dada and The Angry Young Man of Kannada Cinema. Vishnuvardhan's contributions to Kannada cinema have been praised by his contemporaries in the Indian film industry. The Government of Karnataka honoured him with the Rajyothsava Prashasthi in 1990 and the Dr. Rajkumar Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 for his contributions to Kannada cinema. He was called The Phoenix of Indian Cinema. In 2008, a poll conducted by CNN-IBN listed Vishnuvardhan as the most popular star in the Kannada film industry.
Mahalakshmi Menon, best known by her stagename Shobha, was an Indian actress best known for her work in Malayalam and Tamil films. At the age of 17, she won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the 1979 Tamil film Pasi. She also received three Kerala State Film Awards: for Best Actress (1978), Best Supporting Actress (1977) and Best Child Artist (1971); and two Filmfare Awards South for Best Actress in Kannada (1978) and Tamil (1979) films. Considered one of the finest talents to have emerged in the Indian film world, her promising career was unexpectedly cut short as she committed suicide in 1980, due to unknown reasons. Her popularity resulted in considerable public scrutiny of the events that led to her death and also various conspiracy theories. The 1983 Malayalam film Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback is supposedly based on her life and death.

Nagarahavu (transl. Cobra) is a 2002 Indian Kannada-language psychological thriller film starring Upendra and Jyothika, directed by S. Murali Mohan. A remake of the 1993 Hindi film Baazigar, it shocked its Karnataka audience with an unexpected violation of the standard Kannada film industry formula, with a morally ambiguous hero. An above-average success at the box office, this was Upendra's second film portraying a negative role after his earlier blockbuster Preethse, a remake of the 1993 Hindi film Darr. In both remakes, Upendra played Shah Rukh Khan's roles. It was Jyothika's debut in Kannada film industry. For his work in the film, Upendra won the Udaya Film Award for Best Male Actor along with Jyothika for her Best Female Actor Award.
Sudeep Sanjeev, also known as Sudeepa or Kichcha Sudeep, is an Indian actor, director, producer, screenwriter, television presenter and singer, who primarily works in Kannada films. He has also worked in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil films. The film stars Shoba playing the title character along with Kamal Haasan, Kokila Mohan and Roja Ramani in other prominent roles. Kuselan is a 2008 Indian Tamil-language dramedy film directed by P. Vasu. An official remake of the Malayalam film Kadha Parayumbol (2007), it was produced by Pushpa Kandaswamy, Aswani Dutt and G. P.
