Kailasam Balachander was an Indian filmmaker and playwright who worked mainly in the Tamil cinema. He was well known for his distinct film-making style, and the Indian film industry knew him as a master of unconventional themes and hard-hitting contemporary subject matter. Balachander's films are well known for their portrayal of women as bold personalities and central characters. Popularly referred to as Iyakkunar Sigaram, his films are usually centred on unusual or complicated interpersonal relationships and social themes. He started his film career in 1964 as a screenwriter and graduated to a director with Neerkumizhi (1965).

She was one of the popular and critically acclaimed lead actresses during the 1980s. She also appeared in a television serial, Selvi. She is also credited as a dubbing artist. Maro Charitra is a 1978 Indian Telugu-language romantic tragedy film written and directed by K. Balachander. It stars Kamal Haasan and Saritha in the lead with Madhavi appearing in prominent roles. The film deals with cross-cultural romance between a Tamil man and a young Telugu woman. Upon release, it was commercially successful and remains a cult classic. Owing to its success in Andhra Pradesh, the film was released in the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka without being dubbed into the respective languages. It held the record of being the longest-running Telugu film at theatres in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Across theatres it had an uninterrupted theatrical run of two and half years in Bangalore. The song Ye Theega Poovuno became popular.

Sujatha was an Indian actress who performed and starred in a variety of unique characters in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films- in addition to few in Kannada and Hindi languages as well. The actress was best known for restraint and subtlety in portrayal of varied emotions. After starring in numerous Malayalam films in her mother-tongue, Sujatha later got introduced to the Tamil film industry by veteran director K. Balachander and producer P.R. Govindarajan as a protagonist in her first Tamil film, Aval Oru Thodar Kathai (1974). It was a critically acclaimed film and launched the actress's first commecrical breakthrough in her acting career. Whereas, her first Telugu picture happened to be a Telugu/Tamil bilingual titled as Guppedu Manasu (1979) in Telugu and was simultaneously shot as Nool Veli in Tamil of the same year. She died of a cardiac arrest on 6 April 2011 in Chennai.
Idi Katha Kaadu is a 1979 Indian Telugu-language drama film directed by K. Balachander starring Chiranjeevi, Jayasudha, Kamal Haasan, Sarath Babu and, Saritha. It is a remake of Balachander's own Tamil film Avargal (1977). Jayasudha reprised the role of Sujatha in the original. Kamal Haasan starred in the same role in both languages. This film also had Chiranjeevi as the villainous husband of Jayasudha. The film was shot in Black and white. Jayasudha won the Nandi Award for Best Actress.
Tholi Kodi Koosindi is a 1981 Indian Telugu-language drama film directed by K. Balachander, starring Saritha, Seema, Madhavi, and Sarath Babu with Jeeva as the antagonist. The film was simultaneously made in Tamil as Enga Ooru Kannagi. Both versions were released on 6 February 1981. The Telugu version won three Nandi Awards.

He founded "Ranjith Movies" banner with the help of his uncle K L N Prasad who is a well known Industrialist & Politician. Ranjith Kumar entered the film world as a producer in 1973 with his first Telugu film venture "Chikati Velugulu" directed by K.S.Prakash Rao followed by a successful movie "Mana Voori Katha" starring Krishna and Jaya Pradha in 1976. Ranjith Kumar has won various laurels for his films. He produced entertainers with not only commercial interests but also social concern. It would be right to say that his films reflect human values. In 1977, he went on to produce the super hit film "Maa Iddari kadha" with the Legend N.T.Rama Rao who played dual role.
