Software which meets these requirements, The Four Essential Freedoms of Free Software, is termed free software.

FOSS.IN, previously known as Linux Bangalore, was an annual free and open source software (FOSS) conference, held in Bangalore, India from 2001 to 2012. From 2001 to 2004, it was known as Linux Bangalore, before it took on a new name and wider focus. During its lifetime, it was one of the largest FOSS events in Asia, with participants from around the world. It focused on the technical and software side of FOSS, encouraging development and contribution to FOSS projects from India. The event was held every year in late November or early December.

Jagdish Prasad Mathur was an Indian politician and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was born in 1928 in Sikar of the present-day Rajasthan state and was associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since 1942. He became a member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1952. A two-time member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament from 3 April 1978 to 2 April 1984 and from 3 April 1990 to 2 April 1996, Mathur was also the deputy leader of the BJP parliamentary party in the Rajya Sabha in 1993 and chief whip in 1990. He died in Delhi on Saturday, August 4, 2007. His last rites were performed in Jaipur.

He was also a member of the National Commission to Review the Working of Constitution and chairman of its drafting and editorial committee.

After completing his post-doctoral training at Harvard University in the US, he returned to India as founding Professor at IIM Ahmedabad from 1965 to 1969. Thereafter, he set up the HR department at Larsen & Toubro, a large industrial group in India, as founding Chief Organization Manager from 1969 to 1973. Finally, he founded his consulting firm Anand & Associates in Bombay and was a management thinker in India from the 1970s till 2000 advising large corporations, family businesses and non-profit organizations.

He died on 23 May 2020 during sleep when he was home quarantined due to COVID-19 positivity during the COVID-19 pandemic in India, in New Delhi.

Santosh Kumar Kacker is an Indian otorhynolaryngologist and a former director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. He graduated in medicine in 1960 and completed his post graduate degree (MS) in Otorhynolaryngology from the present day King George's Medical University, Lucknow, in 1963 to start his medical practice. He also secured the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of London in 1968.
