Rally Cry is the fifth full-length studio album by Canadian rock band Arkells, released October 19, 2018 on Last Gang Records. [1]
The album was preceded by the politically themed single "People's Champ", [2] and "Relentless" was the second single. [3]
The album's concert tour included the band's first major headlining stadium shows, including a kickoff show at Tim Hortons Field in their hometown of Hamilton on June 23, 2018, [3] and a show at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on February 16, 2019. [4]
Cam Lindsay of Exclaim! rated the album 8 out of 10, writing that "What makes Rally Cry a success, though, is in how Arkells seem to really be going for the big score with creative risks. "Relentless" is built around a sample lifted from Soweto artist Chicco's "Sixolele Babe," whose Afro-pop groove shouldn't really work, but somehow fits into its loud rock framework. "Company Man" is the closest they've come to a Motown or Daptone track of their own, and while it isn't exactly the Dap-Kings, what is?" [5] For Now , Richard Trapunski wrote that "Rally Cry teems with the kind of call-and-response hooks (complete with “whoa-oh” backups), fist-raising slow-build crescendos and precise grooves meant to be screamed to with crowds of people. That kind of gaudy, unself-conscious, 80s-style pop ambition can be a turnoff in many bands, especially in 2018 (see: U2, the Killers, Coldplay), but Arkells do it in a way that makes you root for them like a hometown hockey team." [6]
At the Juno Awards of 2019, the album won the Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year, and Eric Ratz won the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year Award. [7] Earlier in the evening, however, Jeremy Dutcher had been played off the stage before he was able to finish his acceptance speech for the Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year, and Arkells brought him up to the stage with them and ceded their speaking time to him so he could finish. Gus van Go is a music producer, mixer, and musician. He is best known for his work with the Montreal band The Stills, with credits for production, mixing, writing and arranging three albums and one EP with the band. Throughout his career, Ratz has worked with some of Canada's most successful and influential rock bands, including Arkells, Big Wreck, Billy Talent, Cancer Bats, Danko Jones, and Monster Truck. He has been nominated for 11 Juno awards in both the Producer and Recording Engineer categories. He has won the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year Award, two Recording Engineer of the Year Juno Awards, and a Grammy award.

Animism is the third studio album by Canadian Inuk musician Tanya Tagaq, released May 27, 2014 on Six Shooter Records. The primary telecast ceremonies were held at Budweiser Gardens, preceded by numerous Juno Week events from 11 March. This was the first time the Juno Awards were hosted in London.
The Beaches are a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 2013 by Jordan Miller, Kylie Miller, Leandra Earl, and Eliza Enman-McDaniel (drums). The band released two EPs titled The Beaches (2013) and Heights (2014) before signing to Island Records. In 2017, they released their debut album Late Show, which led to the band winning the 2018 Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year. To follow their debut, they released two further EPs called The Professional (2019) and Future Lovers (2021). A 2022 compilation album Sisters Not Twins combined their previous two EPs and won that year's Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year. Their second studio album Blame My Ex will be released independently on September 15, 2023.
Jeremy Dutcher is a classically-trained Canadian Indigenous tenor, composer, musicologist, performer and activist, who previously lived in Toronto, Ontario and currently lives in Montréal, Québec. He became widely known for his first album Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa, which won the 2018 Polaris Music Prize and the Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year at the 2019 Juno Awards.
