Ram Narayan Singh often referred to as Babu Ram Narayan Singh (1885-1964) [1] was a noted freedom fighter,social worker and politician from Hazaribagh. [2]
He was born on 19 December 1884 in Tetaria village in Chatra district. His father's name was Bholi Singh. He completed his early school in Tetaria village and secondary education in Hazaribagh vernacular school. He completed his higher study in St.Xavier College Kolkata. [3] [4]
He and his brother Sukhlal Singh was among the early Congress workers from Chatra,who lead in Non-co-operation movement with other young congress leaders like Krishna Ballabh Sahay,Raj Ballabh Singh,Badri Singh of Koderma. [5] They also propagated Khadi and mingled with Santhal leaders like Opan Manjhi,Bangma Manjhi for the social reform movement. [5] He and Krishna Ballabh Sahay were firstly imprisoned for a month by British during 1920-21. [5] The India's district gazetteers also makes a note that notable participants in the independence movement from Chhatra district include Babu Ram Narayan Singh,and Babu Shaligram Singh,who lead the Quit India movement and were imprisoned several times by British for their national activities. [6] He was known as Chotanagpur Kesri - Lion of Chotanagpur . [6] He was president of Hazaribagh district Congress Committee and worked closely with other national leaders like Rajendra Prasad,Jay Prakash Narayan,Anugrah Narayan Sinha and Shri Krishna Sinha was among the front leaders,during visit of Mahatma Gandhi's visit to Bihar in 1921-26 and in 1941-42 [5]
After independence,he disassociated himself from the Congress Party and won first Lok Sabha elections in 1951 from Hazaribagh West as a Chota Nagpur Santhal Parganas Janata Party candidate. [7] It was Babu Ram Narayan Singh who first advocated for separate Jharkhand state in the parliament. [8] He was very close to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and was to accompany him with U. M. Trivedi and V. G. Deshpande on his eventful tour to Kashmir. [9]
He was an active member of All India Kshatriya Mahasabha and was instrumental in reviving it in 1947 after independence and also served as association's president in 1955. [10]
Hazaribagh is a city and a municipal corporation in Hazaribagh district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. It is the divisional headquarters of North Chotanagpur division. It is considered as a health resort and is also popular for Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary. It is represented in the Indian Lok Sabha by its Member of Parliament Jayant Sinha.

Shri Krishna Sinha,also known as Shri Babu,was the first chief minister of the Indian state of Bihar (1946–61). Except for the period of World War II,Sinha was the chief minister of Bihar from the time of the first Congress Ministry in 1937 until his death in 1961. Along with the Desh Ratna Rajendra Prasad and Bihar Vibhuti Anugrah Narayan Sinha,Sinha is regarded among the 'Architects of Modern Bihar'. He also led the Dalit entry into the Baidyanath Dham temple,which reflected his commitment towards the upliftment and social empowerment of the Dalits. He was the first chief minister in the country to abolish the zamindari system. He underwent different terms of imprisonment for a total of about eight years in British India. Sinha's mass meetings brought hordes of people to hear him. He was known as Bihar Kesari for his lionlike roars when he rose to address the masses. His close friend and eminent Gandhian Bihar Vibhuti A.N. Sinha in his essay Mere Shri Babu wrote that,"Since 1921,the History of Bihar has been the history of the life of Shri Babu".
Krishna Ballabh Sahay fondly known as K B SAHAY was an Indian freedom fighter,who after Indian Independence became the Revenue Minister of Bihar and then became the fourth Chief Minister of unified Bihar.
Yogendra Shukla was an Indian nationalist and freedom fighter from Bihar. He served in the Cellular Jail (Kalapani),and he was among the founders of Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). Along with Basawon Singh (Sinha) he was among the founder members of the Congress Socialist Party from Bihar.
Satyendra Narayan Sinha was an Indian politician and statesman,participant in the Indian independence movement,a leading light of Jaya Prakash Narayan's ‘complete revolution’movement during the Emergency and a former Chief Minister of Bihar. Affectionately called Chhote Saheb,he was also a seven-time Member of Parliament from the Aurangabad constituency,a three-term Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly,and a Member of the Bihar Legislative Council once. Regarded to be one of India's most influential regional people of the time,his reputation was synonymous with being a strict disciplinarian and tough taskmaster.
Anugrah Narayan Sinha,known as Bihar Vibhuti,was an Indian nationalist statesman,participant in Champaran Satyagraha,Gandhian &one of the architects of modern Bihar,who was the first Deputy Chief Minister and the Finance Minister of the Indian state of Bihar (1946–1957). He was also a Member of the Constituent Assembly of India,which was elected to write the Constitution of India and served in its first Parliament as an independent nation. He also held a range of portfolios including Labour,Local Self Government,Public Works,Supply &Price Control,Health and Agriculture. A.N. Sinha,affectionately called Anugrah Babu,was a very close associate of Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle movement and worked with Bihar Kesari Sri Krishna Sinha to lead the Gandhian movement in Bihar. One of the leading nationalists in the Indian independence movement from Bihar after Dr Rajendra Prasad,he was elected as the Congress Party deputy leader in the state assembly to assume office as first Deputy Chief Minister cum Finance Minister of independent Bihar,and re-elected when the Congress Party won Bihar's first general election with a massive mandate in 1952.

Before quitting Congress,he was among the four prominent leaders of Bihar unit during 1960s,the others being Krishna Ballabh Sahay,Satyendra Narayan Sinha and Binodanand Jha.
