Ramesh L Chakrasali is an author and the current principal of SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad. He is senior professor at department of Electrical and Electronics engineering at SDMCET. [2] He has authored several books such as Basic Electrical engineering, Testing and Commissioning of Electrical Equipment and Electrical Power Utilization. [3] [4] [5] He has been appointed as the principal of SDM College of Engineering and Technology (SDMCET) succeeding Dr. K. Gopinath, He is serving as the principal of SDMCET since February 2024. [6]

On 25 January 2024 Dr. Ramesh L. Chakrasali was appointed as the next principal of SDM College of Engineering and Technology (SDMCET) succeeding Dr. K. Gopinath.

Education

He obtained his B.E. (Electrical) and M.E. (Digital Electronics) from SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad, affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad. He was awarded Ph.D. from Visvesvaraya Technological University Belagavi, in the field of renewable energy sources based standalone micro hybrid grid. [7]

Academic career

Dr. Chakrasali joined SDMCET as a professor in 1990 and was the dean of the college from 2015 to 2022 and academic coordinator from 2015 to 2023. [8] He was appointed as the principal of SDMCET by the secretary Jeevandhar Kumar on 25 January 2024 and will officially take the office on 1 February 2024. He was awarded SCROLL OF HONOUR FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO ENGINEERING AS CHAIRMAN in 2021 by The Institution of Engineers. [9]

Prof. Chakrasali is serving as Member of Academic bodies like Member Sanjay Ghodawat University Kolhapur, Member BoS Bellari Institute of Technology & Management Bellari and S.J.M. Institute of Technology, Chitradurga, Member BOE Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur, Member Doctorate committee R.V. College of Engineering, Bengaluru and Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, Member DUGC,DPGC, BOE, BOS, and Academic council at SDMCET, Dharwad. He worked as Secretary and Chairman of The Institution of Engineers (India) Dharwad Local Centre, Dharwad for 2 and 3 years respectively. [10] [11]

Being the principal of the college Dr. Chakrasali is also the chairman of SDMCET Alumni Association [12]

Other works

Dr. Chakarasali has been an active member for the Make in India, an initiative of the Union government, aims to encourage multinational and national companies to manufacture goods in India to increase employment and growth in local businesses. [13] He was the event coordinator for the National Technical Paper Contest in 2011 held in the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad. [14]
