Ranade Industrial and Economic Institute, or the Ranade Institute as it is popularly known, is situated at Fergusson College Road, Pune. Built in 1910, the building contains the University of Pune's Department of Communication & Journalism and Department of Foreign Languages. [1]
An endowment of Rs.10,000/-, made by Shri. K. A. Kolhatkar, led to the creation of the Department of Communication and Journalism by the University of Pune in 1956 and the institution of the "Sandeshkar Kolhatkar Scholarship" for Marathi Journalism. [2] The Department of Communication and Journalism was established in 1964. [3]
A two-year, part-time diploma course in Journalism was inducted on 5 February 1964. The course was divided into junior and senior year of study, requiring the students to appear for five papers (carrying 100 marks each) at the end of each year. The classes were held in the evening.
The course was made a one-year full-time degree course from July 1973. The department became a full-fledged regular department of the University in 1976. Following the international and national trend, nomenclature of the Department was changed in 1983 from "Department of Journalism" to "Department of Communication and Journalism". The name of the degree awarded was also changed from B.J. to B.C.J.
A short-term part-time certificate course was instituted in 1979 in co-operation with the Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh. It was upgraded to a Diploma in Journalism (Marathi Medium) course in 1986. The department has introduced a part-time post graduate Diploma in Journalism with English as medium of instruction from academic year 2003-04. One-year Master of Communication and Journalism (MCJ) was introduced from the academic year 1993-94.
The department introduced credit-point based semester system with effect from academic year 2001-02.
The department changed the nomenclature of its Master’s programme to Master of Arts (Mass Communication and Journalism) and revised its syllabus from academic year 2003-04.
As of 17 October 2022, Dr. Ujjwala Barve is the Head of the Department. [4]

Fergusson College is an autonomous public-private college offering various courses in the streams of arts and science in the city of Pune, India. It was founded in 1885 by the Vaman Shriram Apte, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Vishnushashtri Chiplunkar, Mahadeo Ballal Namjoshi and Gopal Ganesh Agarkar. Professor Vaman Shivram Apte was its first principal. Social reformer, journalist, thinker and educationist Gopal Ganesh Agarkar served as the second principal from August 1892, till his death in June 1895.
Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College is a college affiliated to the University of Mumbai, in Matunga, Mumbai, India. It was established in June 1937. The University of Mumbai granted autonomous status to Ramnarain Ruia College in year 2017. It comprises the Ramnarain Ruia College of Arts and Science which includes B. Voc course in Pharma analytical sciences under granted permission by UGC and the Ramnivas Ruia Junior College of Arts and Science. The college has been awarded a five star rating by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India. Also, the NAAC accorded it the A+ Grade and a CGPA of 3.70 out of 4, which is the highest in the state. The college was given the 'Potential for Excellence' status in 2010-11. Additionally, in 2014, Ruia College was adjudged a 'College of Excellence' by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, and is the first College in the country to have received this status. Ruia college won the award for the best college given by University of Mumbai for the year 2006. It has been winning the trophy in the youth festival organized by Mumbai University for the last six consecutive years.

Union Biblical Seminary (UBS) is a theological seminary founded by Wesleyan and Methodist denominations in Pune, India. UBS started as a Marathi-medium Bible School opened by the Free Methodist Church and was finally established in 1953 and initially located in Yavatmal, before relocating to Pune in 1983.
