Randy Minkoff is a partner in The Speaking Specialists, a communications company in Chicago, United States. Minkoff is also a reporter, writer and editor, with more than three decades of journalism experience in both print and broadcasting. He is the co-author of the book `Ron Santo: For Love of Ivy.'

Biography

Randy Minkoff was born in St. Louis, Mo, and grew up in Clayton, Mo. He attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1971. He immediately joined United Press International. Minkoff spent nearly 20 years with UPI, including a decade as the Midwest Sports Editor in Chicago. Minkoff has covered the Olympics, numerous Super Bowls, the Final Four, the World Series, and other major events. Minkoff has also served as state news editor of the UPI bureaus Iowa and Kentucky. He has interviewed thousands of personalities and newsmakers and has won several regional awards for outstanding reporting. [1]

Minkoff also served as an official scorer for Major League Baseball and was President of the Chicago chapter of the Baseball Writers of America.

In 1988, Minkoff became the sports anchor and reporter at WGN Radio in Chicago. As a broadcaster he hosted programs with the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears and covered sporting events. Minkoff was anchor and host of Sports Central., and ports anchor and host of Sports Central also hosted Score 720 sports trivia game show. [2]

In 1993 he co-authored the autobiography “Ron Santo: For Love of Ivy”, the story of the former Cub third baseman Ron Santo, his life, and his battle with diabetes.

Minkoff was a regular on “The Sportswriters” weekly radio program and also served as play-by-play announcer for DePaul University men's basketball with the late Hall of Fame coach, Ray Meyer.

In 1983, Minkoff married Sue Castorino, who was then a broadcaster at WBBM in Chicago. Castorino subsequently founded The Speaking Specialists, a communications company in Chicago specializing in public speaking and media training. At that time, the company primarily served business and corporate clients around the world.

In 1996, Minkoff joined his wife at The Speaking Specialists, where he started the sports division of the company. He and Castorino provide services for the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, American Olympians, and colleges and universities. Since 2009 he has served as professor on the faculty of Loyola University Chicago where he teaches sports broadcasting, broadcast journalism, ethics & communication, and news research & editing.[ citation needed ]

In 1990, Santo became a member of the Cubs broadcasting team providing commentary for Cubs games on WGN radio and remained at that position until his death in 2010. In 1999, he was selected to the Cubs All-Century Team. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.

Jack Brickhouse American sportscaster

John Beasley Brickhouse was an American sportscaster. Known primarily for his play-by-play coverage of Chicago Cubs games on WGN-TV from 1948 to 1981, he received the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983. In 1985, Brickhouse was inducted into the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame along with the Voice of the Yankees Mel Allen and Red Sox Voice Curt Gowdy. Brickhouse served as the organization's Secretary/Treasurer and was a member of its board of directors.

NewsNation is an American subscription television network owned by the Nexstar Media Group, and is the company's only wholly owned, national cable-originated television channel. The channel runs a mixture of entertainment programming for most of the broadcast day and a straight-news format during the evening and early overnight hours. Len Joseph Kasper is an American sportscaster. As of 2021 he is the radio play-by-play announcer for the Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball, teaming with color analyst Darrin Jackson on ESPN 1000 and the Chicago White Sox Radio Network.

Sam Rosen is an American sportscaster and Hockey Hall of Famer, best known as the primary play-by-play announcer for the National Hockey League's New York Rangers games on MSG. On June 8, 2008, Rosen was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. On November 14, 2016, Rosen was enshrined as the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award winner for outstanding contributions as a broadcaster by the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Steve Burton is a television sports reporter for WBZ-TV and WSBK-TV in Boston. The son of former Boston Patriots player Ron Burton, Steve Burton grew up in Framingham, Massachusetts and is a graduate of and a former quarterback for Northwestern University holding a bachelor of science degree in Communications and a master's degree in Broadcast journalism. He lives in the Boston area with his wife and four children.

Sports Byline USA American sports radio network

Sports Byline USA is an international sports radio network based in the United States. Sports Byline USA is also the name of the flagship program on the network. It was the first national sports talk show and was launched on October 24, 1988. Sports Byline USA is located in San Francisco, California. Rafer Weigel is an American broadcast journalist who most recently was an early morning weekday news anchor and general assignment reporter at WFLD-Channel 32 in Chicago. Formerly, he was the weekend sports anchor and reporter at WLS-TV in Chicago, the sports anchor for CNN HLN’s Morning Express with Robin Meade and also an actor.

Rich King is an American sports journalist who worked for CW affiliate and national cable superstation WGN-TV in Chicago, Illinois. He served as sports anchor for the station's 9 p.m. newscast on Saturday and Sunday evenings, and filed sports reports for the station's Sunday through Thursday evening newscasts. He retired on June 15, 2016, after 48 years in the business.

Merri Dee is an American philanthropist and former television journalist. Dee is best known for her work at Chicago, Illinois television station and national cable superstation WGN-TV as an anchor/reporter from 1972 until 1983 and director of community relations from 1983 until 2008. Dee currently serves as president and member of the leadership council of the Illinois chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) since 2009.

WGN Sports is the programming division of WGN-TV, an independent television station located in Chicago, Illinois, United States—which is owned by the Nexstar Media Group—that is responsible for all sports broadcasts on the station, some of which were previously also broadcast on its former national superstation feed, WGN America.
