Rangachakua is a village and a central area for some villages situated in Sonitpur district, in the Indian state of Assam. [1] It provide various economic, financial and organizational service to the surrounding Region having the only bank in the area, only Higher Secondary.
According to folklore, this area was formerly thickly vegetated. Bordikarai (Dikkarika) river was planned to flow from the edge of a curve. The river was in the middle of the trees, which were stunted and reddish in colour. As a result, in the computation, the phrase ′′ Ranga+Suk ′′ (Red-corner) is referred to as ′′ Rangachakua ′′. Another possible reason for this naming can be a local breed of rice called Rangachakua.[ citation needed ]
Rangachakua has a mild to warm climate in the summer and a colder environment in the winter. During this time, the temperature would range between 18 and 23 degrees Celsius. Rangachakua climate makes it ideal for a variety of agricultural activities.
Rangachakua's forwardness can be estimated by its "Rangachakua Pathar Porichalona Samiti" [2] which was an innovative agricultural organization formed a decade ago by the local villagers. It was one of only four of its kind in the whole Sonitpur District. At the present the small tea farmers are actively participating in the economic development and progress, organizing small tea growers learning session and workshops. Orang National Park is a national park in India located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River in the Darrang and Sonitpur districts of Assam. It covers an area of 79.28 km2 (30.61 sq mi). The Tea-garden community is a term for a multiethnic, multicultural group of tea garden workers and their descendants in Assam. They are officially referred to as Tea-tribes by the government of Assam and notified as Other Backward Classes (OBC). They are the descendants of peoples from multiple tribal and caste groups brought by the British colonial planters as indentured labourers from the regions of present-day Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh into colonial Assam during the 1860-90s in multiple phases to work in tea gardens. They are found mainly in those districts of Upper Assam and Northern Brahmaputra belt where there is a high concentration of tea gardens, like Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Biswanath,Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, and Lakhimpur. There is a sizeable population of the community in the Barak Valley region of Assam as well in the districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi. The total population is estimated to be around 7 million, of which an estimated 4.5 million reside in residential quarters built inside 799 tea estates spread across tea-growing regions of Assam. Another 2.5 million reside in the nearby villages spread across those tea-growing regions. They speak multiple languages, including Sora, Odia, Assam Sadri, Sambalpuri, Kurmali, Santali, Kurukh, Kharia, Kui, Chhattisgarhi, Gondi and Mundari. Assam Sadri, distinguished from the Sadri language, serves as lingua franca among the community.
