Rangitikei College, formerly known as Marton District High School, is a state secondary coeducational school located in Marton, Rangitikei District, New Zealand. It is located towards the east of the town centre on 24 Bredins Line.

The school has a roll of 305 students as of April 2016 and provides education for students in years 9–13.

History

Since late 2015 Rangitikei College's principal is Tony Booker, who formerly had been the deputy principal of Nga Tawa Diocesan School and St Peter's College, Palmerston North. Until 2015 the principal was Karene Biggs. [1] Prime Minister John Key visited the school in September 2015, along with Rangitikei MP Ian McKelvie, and gave a speech encouraging students to have confidence in their abilities and to follow their goals. [3]

In 2016 the school introduced an "Inspire Programme" to provide customised learning and mentoring to the most motivated students. [1]

1880 Rangitikei by-election New Zealand by-election

The 1880 Rangitikei by-election was a by-election held during the 7th New Zealand Parliament in the Rangitikei electorate of the North Island. This was the fourth by-election since the Rangitikei electorate was established for the 1861 election. The previous by-election took place in 1875 and the following one took place in 1892. Sir William Fox, Premier of New Zealand on four occasions, was elected to Parliament for his sixth and final time.

Andrew "Andy" Watson is the Mayor of Rangitikei District in Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand. He was elected as Mayor of Rangitikei on 12 October 2013, defeating incumbent mayor Chalky Leary. Watson was re-elected in 2016 and 2019.

The 2016 Rangitikei mayoral election were part of the Rangitikei and wider New Zealand local elections. On 8 October 2016, elections were held for the Mayor of Rangitikei and other local government roles. Incumbent mayor Andy Watson was first elected in 2013 with 41.5% of the vote. Watson announced on 9 June he is running for a second term as mayor. Running against Watson are community patrol chair George London and civil engineer Robert Snijders, all three from Marton.
