In July 2016, seven members of a Dalit family were assaulted by a group of people in pretext of cow protection in Una in Gujarat, India. The video of the incident was circulated on the social media resulting in statewide protests in following months. Forty-three people including four Gujarat police officers were arrested and the case is under trial since August 2018.

Vikassheel Insaan Party is an Indian political party, formally launched on November 4, 2018, by a Bollywood set designer Mukesh Sahani, who campaigned for the Bharatiya Janata Party during the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election. They contested in three Lok Sabha constituencies in 2019 from Madhubani, Muzaffarpur and Khagaria but failed to win any seats. The support base for the party consists mainly of the Nishad, Nonia, Bind, Beldar community, which comprises 20 sub-castes of fisherman and boatmen.
Mukesh Sahani is an Indian politician from the Indian state of Bihar. He served as the Minister for Animal Husbandry & Fisheries in the Government of Bihar till 27 March 2022. He is the founder of the Vikassheel Insaan Party, a political party in Bihar. He previously worked as a Bollywood stage designer. Sahani is also owner of a company named 'Mukesh Cineworld Private Limited'.

Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was an Indian social activist who was the president of Karni Sena, a right-wing group. He was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jaipur on 5 December 2023. The incident took place in the Shyam Nagar area. The Lawrence Bishnoi Gang claimed responsibility for the murder.
