Ravindra Amonkar is an Indian theatre artist and director and also a previous vice-chairman of Bal Bhavan Goa. [1]

Early life

Amonkar founded production houses like Navrang Stars and Vakratund and children’s stage movement (Baalnatya Chalval [2] ) in Goa.

Career

Amonkar has worked with Sangeet Natak, andpromoted children’s theatre in Goa as Vice Chairperson of Bal Bhavan. [3] From school level to Higher Secondary level he's organised workshops, competitions, [4] and taught acting in telefilms specially meant for children. [5]

Goa's traditional arts

Shri. Ravindra Amonkar is associated with the festive traditional theatre in Goa, and has contributed by directing youngsters and the professional actors. He has also taken the traditional stage to the National level and held positions on the executive and general body committee of Kala Academy, Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad, Akhil Govmantak Marathi Natya Maha Sangh, Goa College of Music, West Zone Culture (Udaipur), Sahitya Sevak Mandal, Saraswati Mandir, Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa. [6]

Ravindra Kelekar was a noted Indian author who wrote primarily in the Konkani language, though he also wrote in Marathi and Hindi. A Gandhian activist, freedom fighter and a pioneer in the modern Konkani movement, he was a well known Konkani scholar, linguist, and creative thinker. Kelekar was a participant in the Indian freedom movement, Goa's liberation movement, and later the campaign against the merger of the newly formed Goa with Maharashtra. He played a key role in the founding of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal, which lead the literary campaign for the recognition of Konkani as a full-fledged language, and its reinstatement as the state language of Goa. He authored nearly 100 books in the Konkani language, including Amchi Bhas Konkaneech, Shalent Konkani Kityak, Bahu-bhashik Bharatant Bhashenche Samajshastra and Himalayant, and also edited Jaag magazine for more than two decades.

Satish Vasant Alekar is a Marathi playwright, actor, and theatre director. A founder member of the Theatre Academy of Pune, and most known for his plays Mahanirvan (1974), Mahapoor (1975), Atirekee (1990), Pidhijat (2003), Mickey ani Memsahib (1973), and Begum Barve (1979), all of which he also directed for the Academy. Along with Mahesh Elkunchwar and Vijay Tendulkar he is considered among the most influential and progressive playwrights in modern Marathi and Indian theatre.

Vidyaben Shah was an Indian social worker and activist known for her work with children, women and the elderly in India. While she was already serving as Vice-President, she was appointed the first non-officio President of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975. She has held several leading positions in the field of social welfare since the 1940s. Vidyaben Shah died at the age of 97 on 19 June 2020 at her residence in Delhi, her son Mihir Shah confirmed the news of Vidyaben Shah death.

Girijabai Madhav Kelkar (1886–1980) was a feminist and writer from India. The performance of her play led to many debates about women's rights and the concept of gender roles. She was president of 23rd Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Sammelan of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad held in 1928 at Pune.

Jaymala Shiledar (21 August 1926 – 8 August 2013) was an Indian Hindustani classical singer and theatre actress. She had appeared in many sangeet nataks where she played various roles. Along with singing for the roles she played, she had also composed music for some. In the career span of over 50 years, she appeared in more than 4500 shows. She was married to co-actor singer Jayaram Shiledar along with whom she established a production banner of "Marathi Rangabhoomi". The pair together is credited for revamping the Marathi music industry. She was presented with Padma Shri award in 2013.

Krishnarao Ganpatrao Sable, popularly known as Shahir Sable, was a Marathi language folk artist from Maharashtra, India. He was an accomplished singer, playwright, performer and folk theatre (Loknatya) producer & director. He was awarded with Padma Shri – India's fourth highest civilian honour, in 1998 for his contribution in the field of arts.

Padmakar Ramachandra Dubhashi was an Indian civil servant, administrator, author, social scientist and academician, known for his administrative and academic abilities.
