Konkani cinema is an Indian film industry, where films are made in the Konkani language, which is spoken mainly in the Indian states of Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka and to a smaller extent in Kerala. The films have been produced in Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala. [2]

The first full-length Konkani film was Sukhi Konn produced by GMB Rodrigues in 1949 but was never released. Mogacho Anvddo , was released on 24 April 1950, and was produced and directed by Al Jerry Braganza, a native of Mapuçá, under the banner of ETICA Pictures. [3] [4] Hence, 24 April is celebrated as Konkani Film Day. [5]

Konkani film Paltadcho manis has been included in the world's best films of 2009 list. [6]

Konkani films are eligible for the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Konkani.

Films made in other languages and dubbed into Konkani are also excluded.

Mangalore, officially known as Mangaluru, is a major industrial port city in the Indian state of Karnataka and on the west coast of India. It is also spoken in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat as well as Damaon, Diu & Silvassa.

Goan Catholics are an ethno-religious community of Indian Christians adhering to the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church from the Goa state, in the southern part of the Konkan region along the west coast of India. They are Konkani people and speak the Konkani language.

Mangalore district that was partitioned from the erstwhile South Canara, has been multicultural and is a little different from the prevalent culture of the Carnataca state of India. A native of Mangalore is known as a Mangalorean in English, Kudladakulu in Tulu, Kodyaalkar in Konknni, Manglurnavaru in Kannada& Maikaaltanga in Byari.

Karwari Catholics are Indian Christians following the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church, primarily from the Karwar township and also the North Kanara district, situated in the Kanara subregion of Karnataka, India. Colloquially called "Karwar district", this region falls under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Karwar. At the turn of the new century, the diocese had about 50,000 Catholics, comprising 3% of the total population of the district. They are Konkani people and speak the Karwari dialect of the Konkani language. Karwari Catholics share ancestry with Goan Catholics and other Christians of the Konkan region and the Konknni language.

Konkani in the Roman script, commonly known as Roman Konkani or Romi Konknni refers to the writing of the Konkani language in the Roman script. While Konkani is written in five different scripts altogether, Roman Konkani is widely used. Roman Konkani is known to be the oldest preserved and protected literary tradition beginning from the 16th century AD.

Tulu cinema, also known as Coastalwood, is a part of Indian cinema. The Tulu film industry produces five to seven films annually. The first Tulu film was Enna Thangadi released in 1971. Earlier, these films were released in theatres across the Tulu Nadu region. Tulu film industry has grown to such an extent that films are being released simultaneously in Mangalore, Udupi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Middle East. Roopesh Shetty is an actor who acts in Tulu, Kannada and Konkani films. He is also a radio jockey in Mangaluru and a model. He emerged as the Winner of the Season 1 of Bigg Boss Kannada OTT. He also won Bigg Boss Kannada.

Prashanti Talpankar is a writer, translator, playwright and actor, hailing from the coastal state of Goa, India. She is also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation. She currently serves as an associate professor at Dnyanprassark Mandal's college and Research Centre, Assagao.

<i>Juze</i> 2017 Indian film in Konkani

Juze or Juje is a 2017 Indian film in Konkani, written and directed by Miransha Naik. The film is about the social injustice and exploitation faced by migrant labourers in Goa, and is set in the 1990s. It was co-produced by people from India, France and Netherlands under the banner of Goa Film Bazaar, with some of the editing done in Paris.

<i>Amizade</i> 2018 Indian film in Konkani

Amizade (transl. Friendship) is a 2018 Indian Konkani-language action film written and directed by Aniket Arun Naik, and produced by Sachin Verlekar's Om Creative Film Works, in partnership with Bymistake Motion Pictures. It stars Konkani actors John D’Silva and Rajiv Hede and is the debut film of Siddhant Kanekar, Gaurav Pokle, Chetan Upadhay, Dhruv Sincro and Vaishnavi Pilankar. The film is about love and the journey of four good friends and their friendship. The film's trailer was launched at the Goa Marathi Film Festival in 2018, and its poster was released at the 48th International Film Festival of India by the then Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar. The film was released on 7 December 2018.

Nirmillem Nirmonem is a 2019 Indian Konkani-language romantic film directed by Melwin Elpel and produced by Henry D'Silva Suratkal. The film stars Prathap Menezes, Hera Pinto and Seema Buthello in the lead roles. The film's background score is composed by Nandhu J Jabez, music by Pappan Joswin with cinematography handled by Manjunath Hegde and editing done by Chandu Vuppalapati.
