The club was founded on 7 April 1985. They played in first division many season with many different names, Real Maya being the most used. In the 2002/2003 season they took the place of Real Comayagua. [2]
They were named Real Patepluma and moved to Santa Bárbara for their final two seasons in the top tier of Honduran football before being excluded from the league. [3]

The format of the tournament consisted of a three round-robin schedule followed by a 6-team playoff round. Real C.D. España won the title after winning the regular season and the final round and qualified to the 1995 CONCACAF Champions' Cup along with runners-up C.D. Motagua.
Although the tournament was played from January to July 1999, this is officially known as the 1998–99 season in the Honduran football league, it was also the last non-Apertura-Clausura format season played. Club Deportivo Olimpia conquered its 14th title in its history.
