Eugene Voorn (born October 1, 1973), known professionally as Redlight Boogie or SugaCane, is a Dutch rapper. He is considered one of the pioneers of hip hop music in the Netherlands. [1]
Voorn was born in the neighborhood De Pijp in Amsterdam to a Surinamese father and a Dutch mother. In 1982, at the age of nine, he started to take an interest in rapping, breakdancing and beatboxing, three elements of the hip hop culture originating from the United States. He started rapping under the name Busy Beat. Hip hop music in the Netherlands was at that time just known among some enthusiasts in the larger cities, and not by the general public. In 1987, Voorn released the song "Grows in Effect" as Busy Beat, which was produced by LTH. Between 1988 and 1992, he was a member of the group 2 Tuff. [1]
In the early 1990s, he changed his stage name to "Hurricane", but after he learned that the name was already used by DJ Hurricane, he became known as SugaCane. He got the nickname "Cane" in the period that he was dealing cocaine in Amsterdam. He also worked as a pimp for several years. [2] Cane participated in rap battles, contributed to mixtapes of radio program Villa 65 and performed on stages with several international rappers in Amsterdam. Cane became known for his social critical lyrics and his aggressive style and appearance, which ensured that he built up a solid reputation in Amsterdam and other places in the Netherlands. In 1993, Chuck D of Public Enemy advised Dutch rappers to rap in the Dutch language instead of English, because they would have more musical growth opportunities and they could logically express themselves better in their own native language. Dutch rappers like Extince and Brainpower followed this advice and became relatively successful in Dutch. Because of his international aspirations, Cane continued to rap in English to reach a larger public outside the Netherlands and Belgium. [3]
In 1996, Cane had a modest hit in the Dutch rap circuit with his single "Let 'em know", and the accompanying music video was broadcast on television channel TMF. The single was released by the record label Supreme Slice Records (later known as TopNotch). Cane has performed on various stages in both the Netherlands and Germany, and performed as a supporting act for Snoop Dogg, Naughty by Nature, Busta Rhymes, Wu-Tang Clan and Redman. [3] In 1997, he released a mixtape named Killertape Vol. 1. The mixtape included a freestyle with Ol' Dirty Bastard in the studio of Villa 65. [3] In 2000, Cane founded his own record label Now or Neva Records and released his single "You can't fool mine", which was a diss track aimed to rapper E-Life. The single reached the top of the hip hop charts of the Dutch music channel The Box.
In 2006, he formed the English-language hip hop collective The Most Official with Dutch rappers Mr. Probz, U-Niq, Rowdy, MD and Sonny Diablo. The group released the mixtape The Most Official Mixtape, which included the track "Next Block". [3] [4] During interviews, members of The Most Official criticized the majority of the Dutch rappers at the time, who would present a light-hearted version of hip-hop to the general public with their hit repertoires in the Dutch Top 40. Cane also starred in the movie Bolletjes Blues . [5]
In 2009, he changed his stage name to Redlight Boogie and released his studio album Dirty Money, Clean Hands. [6] In January 2010, he collaborated with Sean Price and released the tracks "Heat Rock" and "Welcome Me In" featuring Heltah Skeltah. [7] In February 2010, Redlight Boogie also released a mixtape called Lost 'n Found. [8]
On September 16, 2019, he released the song "Oh Oh" featuring the singer Nivea. [9] [10]
Dutch hip hop or Nederhop ("Netherhop") is hip hop / rap music created by Dutch speaking musicians in the Netherlands and Flanders (Belgium). Although the first Dutch rappers in Europe typically wrote in the English language, this began to change when Osdorp Posse gained a big following of fans. They were the first to record and release hip hop in the Dutch language, perform for big crowds and to achieve chart success with their albums.

Nivea B. Hamilton, better known by her mononym Nivea, is an American R&B singer. She is notably known for her Grammy-nominated hit "Don't Mess with My Man" as well as "Laundromat" and "Okay" featuring YoungbloodZ & Lil' Jon. The Osdorp Posse, founded in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1989, was the first group to make rap music in Dutch. All four members are related to each other. Influenced by gangsta rap, they made a name for themselves by combining the music of hardcore hip hop with Dutch lyrics featuring literal translations of American slang. Initially appreciated only in the Dutch underground scene, they achieved commercial success and exerted great influence on the Dutch hip hop scene.
Ricardo Emmanuel Brown, better known by his stage name Kurupt, is an American rapper and record producer. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he formed Tha Dogg Pound in 1992 along with Daz Dillinger; the rap duo has released eight albums. He also formed the hip hop group The Hrsmn in 1996, with whom he has released two albums. His debut solo album, Kuruption! (1998) was released by A&M Records and peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200.
QBoy is a UK-based rapper, producer, DJ, writer and presenter. He is one of the original few out rappers in hip hop circa 2001 that became pioneers of the new subgenre colloquially known as "homo hop". QBoy is currently a DJ and promoter of popular LGBTQ club night and party 'R & She: The Queens of Hip-Hop & R&B' which hosts events in London, Berlin and New York City.

Lawrence "Kris" Parker, better known by his stage names KRS-One and Teacha, is an American rapper from The Bronx. He rose to prominence as part of the hip hop group Boogie Down Productions, which he formed with DJ Scott La Rock in the mid-1980s. KRS-One is known for his songs "Sound of da Police", "Love's Gonna Get'cha ", and "My Philosophy". Boogie Down Productions received numerous awards and critical acclaim in their early years. Following the release of the group's debut album, Criminal Minded, fellow artist Scott La Rock was shot and killed, but KRS-One continued the group, effectively as a solo project. He began releasing records under his own name in 1993. He is politically active, having started the Stop the Violence Movement after La Rock's death. He is also a vegan activist, expressed in songs such as "Beef". He is widely considered an influence on many hip-hop artists.

Krishan Maheson, known as Krishan, is a rap artist from Sri Lanka. Krishan specialises in rap music, and is one of the pioneer Tamil rap artists in the world. Krishan helped start the Tamil rap scene in Sri Lanka, together with his brother, Gajan, and fellow MC Yauwanan. Krishan migrated to Darwin, Australia in 2018.

In September 2014, Wild released his only extended play, Go Mode. The EP's second single, "Made Me", peaked at number 93 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the highest-charting single of his career. Snooty Wild signed to Epic Records/CMG with Yo Gotti.
