The Redoute des Trois Communes is a French fort, located in the commune of Saorge, Alpes-Maritimes.

Built in 1897 as part of the Séré de Rivières system, it was one of the first French forts to be constructed of reinforced concrete. Situated at an altitude of 2080 metres at the highest summit of the Authion massif, it was intended to defend the Franco-Italian border.

During World War II, the redoubt was held by German troops of the 34th division. It saw combat when the French offensive during the battle of Authion. On April 12, after artillery and aviation strikes, it was approached by 5 volunteers of the 1st Free French Division supported by a tank, who obtained the surrender of the 38-strong garrison.

The Fort de la Redoute Ruinée was a French fort overlooking the Col de la Traversette near La Rosière in the Alps between 1892 and 1945. It was built out of the ruins of the Fort de la Traversette, constructed in 1630 by Savoy. In 1792, during the French Revolutionary Wars, the Savoyards garrisoned the old fort with fifty men. Nonetheless, it fell to the French army in 1794 and was renamed Fort Libre. The fort became permanently French with the exchange of territory that accompanied the Treaty of Turin in 1860.

The defense of the Redoute Ruinée in 1945 was an episode of the Second Battle of the Alps. The Fort de la Redoute Ruinée was an old Piedmontese fort on the Col de la Traversette that had been re-built in the 19th century by France as a part of the Ligne Alpine. It defended the Little Saint Bernard Pass. During the Italian invasion of France in June 1940, the fort had been captured by Italy. In April 1945, it was held by the forces of the Italian Social Republic and came under attack by the French.

The Fortified Section of Savoy(Secteur fortifié de la Savoie) was the French military organization that in 1940 controlled the section of the Alpine Line portion of the Maginot Line facing Italy in the Savoy region. The sector constituted part of the Alpine Line portion of the Maginot Line, between the Defensive Sector of the Rhône to the north, and the Fortified Sector of the Dauphiné to the south. The works combined a number of pre-1914 fortifications with Maginot-style ouvrages, with many forward-positioned cavern-style frontier stations or avant-postes that proved effective in holding invading forces near the order.
