The Retired Armed Forces Officers' Welfare Association or RAOWA, [1] is an association for the welfare of retired armed forces officers in Bangladesh.
It was formed by members of two defunct organization Defence Officers' Retired Association (founded in 1960s) and Ex-Defence Officers (founded in 1974 by Lieutenant Colonel Hesamuddin Ahmed) on 18 June 1982. [2] The Retired Armed Officers Welfare Association Club is located in Bangladesh. [3] The government of Bangladesh in an agreement with the association decided to import 5000 taxi cabs in 2013, which would only be driven by retired armed forces personnel. [4] Major General Alauddin MA Wadud (Retd) is the current president of the association. [5] Major General Kamruzzaman (Retd); Commodore Khurshid Malik (Retd); and Air Commodore Anisur Rahman (Retd) are the vice-chairman of the club for the year of 2021–2022. [6] Lieutenant Colonel Kamrul Islam (Retd) is the new secretary general of RAOWA. [7] RAOWA club is located in Mohakhali DOHS, Dhaka Bangladesh. [8]
On 22 December 2020, the managing body of RAOWA club was dismissed by the Department of Social Welfare and replaced with servicing officer and civilian bureaucrats. The Ministry of Defense send a letter to RAOWA directing changes to the body including the selection of top three management positions rather than direct elections. [9] The Daily Star described the incident as a "sad day for RAOWA". [9] This followed the RAOWA calling for an investigation into the murder of Sinha Md Rashed Khan, a retired army major. [10]
Victory Day is a national holiday in Bangladesh celebrated on 16 December to commemorate the defeat of the Pakistan Armed Forces in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 and the Independence of Bangladesh. It commemorates the Pakistani Instrument of Surrender, wherein the commander of the Pakistani Forces, General A. A. K. Niazi, surrendered to the Mukti Bahini and their Indian allies, ending the nine-month Bangladesh Liberation War and 1971 Bangladesh genocide and marking the official secession of East Pakistan to become the new state of Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Army is the land warfare branch and the largest component of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The primary mission of the Army is to provide necessary forces and capabilities, to deliver the Bangladeshi government's, adaptative security measures, modular strategies, and optimized or informed intelligence, used in prevision of defending the nation's territorial integrity against external attack. Control of personnel and operations is administered by the Army Headquarters, Dhaka. The Bangladesh Army is also constitutionally obligated to assist the government and it's civilian agencies, either during times of domestic national emergency, or as preventive measures in rare cases. This additional role is commonly referred to as "aid to civil administration" or, using the Latin form, "Protectio, Transparentia, Reintegratio", in others words, "Protect and Serve".
The Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, commonly known by its acronym DGFI, is the defense intelligence agency of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, tasked with collection, collation and evaluation of strategic and topographic information, primarily through human intelligence (HUMINT). As one of the principal members of the Bangladesh intelligence community, the DGFI reports to the Director-General under the executive authority of the head of government, the Prime Minister, and is primarily focused on providing intelligence for the Prime Minister, the Cabinet of Bangladesh, and the Armed Forces of Bangladesh.
Dhaka Cantonment is a Cantonment located in the northern part of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The headquarters of the Bangladesh Army and Air Force are situated within the cantonment which combined form the Armed Forces of Bangladesh. The cantonment is located on the north-east end of Dhaka.

The National Security Intelligence, commonly known as the NSI, is the principal civilian intelligence agency of Bangladesh. The NSI's headquarters is in Segunbagicha, Dhaka. The NSI is the leading body of the Government of Bangladesh in the field of internal security, counter terrorism, counter intelligence and foreign intelligence. NSI is the largest among the intelligence agencies in Bangladesh, the others being the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), SB, CID, PBI and intelligence directorates of armed and paramilitary forces. The agency stands under the direct authority of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Quazi Golam Dastgir was a Bangladesh army general and diplomat. From 1975 to 1977, he served as the "Zonal Martial Law Administrator" for Dhaka Division.
M Sakhawat Hossain is a Bangladeshi author and speaker. He is a former Election Commissioner of Bangladesh (2007–2012), Brigadier general (retired) in the Bangladesh Army. He wrote more than 32 books, and serves as a columnist and freelance commentator on national and international television as a security and defense analyst. He has been serving as an adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh since August 2024.

Aziz Ahmed is a retired Bangladeshi four star general who was Chief of Army Staff (CAS) of the Bangladesh Army, from 25 June 2018 to 24 June 2021. He was succeeded by General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on 24 June 2021.

The 15 August 1975 Bangladesh coup d'état was a military coup launched by mid ranking army officers in Bangladesh on 15 August 1975. The officers were part of a conspiracy to assassinate Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and first president of Bangladesh. Rahman and most of his family members were killed during the coup, with the exception of his two daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana.

She single-handedly established the concept of congenital cardiac intervention in Bangladesh.
