The Act also established the Office on Violence Against Women within the U.S. Department of Justice.

Domestic violence is violence or other abuse that occurs in a domestic setting, such as in a marriage or cohabitation. Domestic violence is often used as a synonym for intimate partner violence, which is committed by one of the people in an intimate relationship against the other person, and can take place in relationships or between former spouses or partners. In its broadest sense, domestic violence also involves violence against children, parents, or the elderly. It can assume multiple forms, including physical, verbal, emotional, economic, religious, reproductive, or sexual abuse. It can range from subtle, coercive forms to marital rape and other violent physical abuse, such as choking, beating, female genital mutilation, and acid throwing that may result in disfigurement or death, and includes the use of technology to harass, control, monitor, stalk or hack. Domestic murder includes stoning, bride burning, honor killing, and dowry death, which sometimes involves non-cohabitating family members. In 2015, the United Kingdom's Home Office widened the definition of domestic violence to include coercive control.
The ManKind Initiative is a domestic violence charity based in the United Kingdom and is at the forefront of providing support for male victims of domestic abuse and violence. Since becoming a charity in 2001, it has provided a helpline, training and support for statutory agencies and campaigns to ensure that equal recognition is given to male victims in the same way that recognition is given to female victims of domestic abuse. It is one of only a few charities in the country to help male victims.

He founded the animation studio Justin Roiland's Solo Vanity Card Productions! and the video game studio Squanch Games, though he resigned from the latter in 2023.
The Norwegian Police Cross of Honour is a medal which is awarded by the head of the National Police Directorate of Norway to Norwegian police personnel for helping to prevent loss of life or damage to equipment and property by act of ingenuity in perilous conditions. After having been discontinued since 2012, it was awarded in 2019 to retired Director of Public Prosecutions Tor-Aksel Busch, and is currently an active award.

Lois Galgay Reckitt is an American feminist, human rights activist, LGBT rights activist, and domestic violence advocate. Called "one of the most prominent advocates in Maine for abused women", she served as executive director of Family Crisis Services in Portland, Maine for more than three decades. From 1984 to 1987 she served as executive vice president of the National Organization for Women in Washington, D.C. She is a co-founder of the Human Rights Campaign Fund, the Maine Coalition for Human Rights, the Maine Women's Lobby, and the first Maine chapter of the National Organization for Women. She was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 1998.

Domestic violence in South Korea is the mental, physical, verbal or sexual abuses or crimes of violence committed towards a victim in a domestic setting of marital relations and cohabitation. Domestic violence describes violence towards a domestic partner, towards children and between siblings. According to the Domestic Violence Survey of South Korea in 2010, elder abuse was estimated to be 10%, physical abuse accounted for 2.2%, emotional abuse 9%, economic abuse 1.2%, and neglect 2.5%. Marital violence has been the most prevalent form of family violence in South Korea. One out of six couples in South Korea had more than one episode of physical violence from their spouse.

Krisesentersekretariatet (KSS) is the main domestic abuse organization in Norway, and is an umbrella organization for several domestic violence shelters for people of all genders. The organization has traditionally focused on violence against women, which remains an important focus, but today it works in an intersectional perspective and has also broadened its work to focus on combating violence against people of all genders. Krisesentersekretariatet focuses on lobbying and educational work in the domestic abuse field. The organization was established in 1994.
Solveig Karin Bø Vatnar is a Norwegian psychologist and violence researcher. She is a principal scientist and professor at Oslo University Hospital's center for security, prison and forensic psychiatry, and researches homicide perpetrated by intimate partners and family members. She has been a member of several royal commissions, i.e. government-appointed expert commissions.
