Rex Pemberton (born 1983) is an extreme sport participant and motivational speaker, best known as being the youngest male Australian ever to climb Mount Everest. [1]
Born and raised in Sydney, Pemberton was educated at Knox Grammar School [2] and the University of Western Sydney.[ citation needed ] He climbed his first alpine peak when he was 16. [1] He raised $100,000 for his Everest climb and another $100,000 to fund his climbs of the remaining Seven Summits, which he completed in 2006 and was the third youngest person in the world to complete this feat. [3] He produced a documentary film of his Everest ascent, entitled To Stand Above the Clouds. [4]
As a keen skydiver, Rex soon transitioned to wingsuit flying then progressing to wingsuit base jumping and proximity flying. Rex rose to the top of the wingsuit world and now competes at the world championships, with third place being his best result. [5]
Rex has designed and built the X-Wing, a jet powered carbon-fiber wing. [6]
Pemberton is married to Emily Guilding. He is the brother of former Miss Australia Caroline Pemberton.
BASE jumping is the recreational sport of jumping from fixed objects, using a parachute to descend safely to the ground. "BASE" is an acronym that stands for four categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: buildings, antennas, spans (bridges), and earth (cliffs). Participants exit from a fixed object such as a cliff, and after an optional freefall delay, deploy a parachute to slow their descent and land. A popular form of BASE jumping is wingsuit BASE jumping.
Mount Everest is Earth's highest mountain above sea level, located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. The China–Nepal border runs across its summit point. Its elevation of 8,848.86 m was most recently established in 2020 by the Chinese and Nepali authorities.
The Seven Summits are the highest mountains of each of the seven traditional continents. Climbing to the summit of all of them was first done on 30 April 1985 by Richard Bass. Once considered a mountaineering challenge, in January 2023, Climbing said "Today, the Seven Summits are a relatively common—almost cliché—tour of each continent's highest peak", and that the real challenge was the Explorers Grand Slam, the Seven Summits with the North and South poles.
Anatoli Nikolaevich Boukreev was a Soviet and Kazakhstani mountaineer who made ascents of 10 of the 14 eight-thousander peaks—those above 8,000 m (26,247 ft)—without supplemental oxygen. From 1989 through 1997, he made 18 successful ascents of peaks above 8000 m.
Wingsuit flying is the sport of skydiving using a webbing-sleeved jumpsuit called a wingsuit to add webbed area to the diver's body and generate increased lift, which allows extended air time by gliding flight rather than just free falling. The modern wingsuit, first developed in the late 1990s, uses a pair of fabric membranes stretched flat between the arms and flanks/thighs to imitate an airfoil, and often also between the legs to function as a tail and allow some aerial steering.

Tim Macartney-Snape is a mountaineer and author. On 3 October 1984 Macartney-Snape and Greg Mortimer were the first Australians to reach the summit of Mount Everest. They reached the summit, climbing without supplementary oxygen, via a new route on the North Face. In 1990, Macartney-Snape became the first person to walk and climb from sea level to the top of Mount Everest. Macartney-Snape is also the co-founder of the Sea to Summit range of outdoor and adventure gear and accessories, a guide for adventure travel company World Expeditions and a founding director and patron of the World Transformation Movement.

Lincoln Ross Hall OAM was a veteran Australian mountain climber, adventurer, author and philanthropist. Lincoln was part of the first Australian expedition to climb Mount Everest in 1984, which successfully forged a new route. He reached the summit of the mountain on his second attempt in 2006, miraculously surviving the night at 8,700 m (28,543 ft) on descent, after his family was told he had died.
Caroline Pemberton is an Australian beauty pageant contestant, who was crowned Miss Australia in 2007.

Richard Pattison is a climber from Northumberland in Great Britain, who resides in Sydney, Australia. He became well known in Northumberland after summitting Everest in 2009, which created front page headlines in the local newspaper "The Journal". The Everest summit also attracted further media attention from BBC Look-North, BBC Radio Newcastle and marketing for the Northumberland County Council. He writes a blog on "The Journal" website. He is working with Melisa Ang as a consultant and claims that she is his biggest inspiration.
James N. Hooper is a British mountain climber and adventurer who in 2006 became one of the youngest Britons to climb Mount Everest, along with his friend Rob Gauntlett.
Giggle and Hoot was an Australian children's television "wrap-around" program block that aired on the ABC Kids channel. The series was produced from 2009 to 2019, with the final episodes airing in 2020, and depicted the adventures of Jimmy Giggle and his best friend, Hoot the Owl. It also aired on ABC from 2009 to 2011. In later seasons, they were joined by a second owl called Hootabelle along with other friends and their toys.
Dr. Glenn Singleman is an Australian physician, professional adventurer, wingsuit pilot and BASE jumper. He is also a documentary filmmaker, and practicing medical doctor specializing in remote and rural medicine. His film BASEclimb, about a world record setting BASE jump from The Great Trango Towers in Pakistan, won 21 International awards.
Matt Moniz is an American mountaineer and speaker noted for his ascents of 8,000 meter peaks and several of the Seven Summits.
Valery Vladimirovich Rozov was a Russian BASE jumper, who became known for jumping from the world's highest summits. He currently holds the record for highest BASE jump in the world.
John Robert "Johnny" Strange was a world record holding adventurer. At 17, he became the youngest to climb the Seven Summits, a record now held by Jordan Romero at 15 years, 5 months and 12 days. He was best known as a professional wingsuit BASE jumper.
Melissa Dawn Burns, also known as Melissa Andrzejewski, is an extreme sports athlete best known for being an American aerobatics pilot, skydiver, B.A.S.E jumper, climber and technical scuba diver. She has won awards at home and internationally for her aerobatics and competitive flying. Melissa works internationally as an airshow display pilot and skydiver.
